Year 10 News
Term 3 Conclusion
As we conclude the term, our focus on preparing Year 10s for Senior School has led to positive student and family endorsement of our college. Thanks to their unwavering efforts, our team has ensured that the Year 10 cohort had a positive experience from July to September. This is partly due to events and activities like the 4C’s, Pasifika Fono, Homework Club, birthday celebrations and more.
We are confident that our ongoing work preparing students for Year 11, together with Work Experience and Study Skills, will enhance student engagement both inside and outside the classroom. In the Year 10 team we will continue setting preconditions for a successful student experience in 2025.
Mr. Justin Wu,
Year 10 Pedagogy Engagement and Leading Teacher.
Summer Uniform Reminder
During term 4 we expect the summer uniform will start to be worn as the weather grows warmer. Please remember that P.E. uniforms should only be worn on designated sport days. Students are also expected to bring in their Ready to Learn Materials to form and classes throughout the day. Our form and classroom teachers will continue to support this effort by conducting regular checks.
WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM REMINDER
A courtesy reminder that Year 10 Work Experience will occur at the end of Term 4 during Week 9 (December 2nd to December 6th). It is the expectation that all Year 10 students will undertake a Work Experience placement with an employer. Please ask your child to utilise their time effectively to find an employer and complete the process. It is essential that students actively take responsibility for finding their own placements. Should there be difficulties in securing a work placement, could you please contact a member of the Career Pathways Office (Ms. Neill, Ms. Bekiaris, Ms. DiSalvatore) for assistance.
STUDY SKILLS PROGRAM
Our success with the Study Skills program has led to a 94% positive engagement and endorsement. This work was conducted in association with a Goal Setting and Growth Mindset Workshop in Week 6. We will continue to support your child’s learning with new themes and further seminars from Elevate Education in Term 4.
Here are some key essential tips and skills for parents and families to help support student engagement during the school holidays.
- Understanding Personal Study Habits: Identify their individual study preferences and determine the most effective study methods for them.
- Homework Completion: Encourage students to dedicate a minimum of 30 minutes per subject each day to homework tasks.
- Work-Life Balance: Support students to balance any part-time job responsibilities with their schoolwork and other commitments.
- Practising Subject Skills: By regularly practising core and elective subjects, students will build mastery of content and skills needed for successful outcomes. Students will also understand how practise leads to finesse in their learning.
- Managing Stress: Whilst we all encounter stress in our lifetime, getting sufficient rest and a healthy diet will help provide a balanced study regime. Remember to prioritize what areas need to be reviewed on the day of study.
- Short and Long Term Goals: Whilst goal setting is important, prioritizing goals is also vital to ensure that immediate and future needs are met efficiently. Short term goals might include completion of more homework or bringing equipment every day to class, whilst long term goals would be improving attendance and achieving a GPA above 3.5.
TERM 3 BIRTHDAYS (JULY-AUGUST)
To celebrate July and August birthdays amongst our Year 10 students, and foster the CSC student-teacher experience, Mr. McGavisk and Mr. Wu arranged a combined party during Week 7. Our attendees had plenty of cake and Mr. Jaffal proudly led the birthday cheers and wishes. We look forward to more celebrations later in the year!
STUDENT OF THE WEEK
As of Week 8, we are proud to announce that Student of the Week awards were given out to recipients in every form group of Year 10. Congratulations to the following nominees:
GPA Growth Term 3 2024
By end of Week 8, GPA results will have been released and made accessible to all students and families. The Year 10 team eagerly anticipates celebrating the success and growth of our students, particularly those who have shown significant improvement in their last GPA assessment. Building on the achievements of the first cycle, we are optimistic for another round of successful GPAs for all students during Term 4.
We encourage parents and families to reach out to their child’s form teacher if they wish to discuss feedback or express any concerns regarding GPAs, especially pertaining to both core and elective subjects. Similarly, we encourage students to communicate with their subject teachers regarding their academic progress. We also wish to congratulate these Year 10 students who achieved the highest growth rate in their GPA by 10% or more in Cycle 2.
