From the Year 5 Classroom

Boat Rock Sacred Aboriginal Site Excursion...Thurs 23rd October

As part of our Reconciliation Week Celebrations at Sacred Heart Primary School, some of our Year 5 students are off to an excursion at Boat Rock, Savernake, a local Sacred Aboriginal Site. The students have shown an interest in Social Justice and they have volunteered to be FIRE Carriers (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education). The students will travel to Savernake, where they will explore the area with Denis Miles a local historian, Uncle Dozer from the local Bangerang mob and Michael Chisholm from the Catholic Education Office. Anne and Alex Sloan who are historians of the area will also join us. It will be a wonderful cultural immersion, learning about our local indigenous history. Our new FIRE Carriers will be commissioned on this Sacred land on the day, and we will have a ceremony back at school at a later date when they will receive their certificates and parents will be invited to attend this function.
