From the Year Prep Classroom

Prep Newsletter – Week 3 Term 4

We know that daylight savings has been an adjustment for many of our little learners as we've had a few tired faces and even a few tears as everyone settles back into the routine. A consistent bedtime and a bit of extra rest can go a long way in helping them feel their best each day. And with the warmer weather upon us, just a friendly reminder to please ensure your child has applied sunscreen before coming to school, brings a water bottle and a hat each day.

Literacy

This week, we were delighted to welcome some visitors from the CEO into our Prep Space. They were incredibly impressed with the learning taking place in Prep and commented on how engaged and involved our students were during our Initial Lit program. Well done, everyone!

We’re also thoroughly enjoying our Author Study this term, focusing on Nick Bland. So far, we’ve read several of his wonderful books, including The Very Cranky Bear, King Pig, and Monster Chef. Ask your child what they’ve learned about Nick Bland as they’re becoming quite the experts! Parents, if you're looking for a great Christmas gift idea, one of his books would be a perfect addition to the home library.

In Writing, we’ve been lifting our expectations by focusing on correct letter formation and using strong word choices to extend our sentences and engage our readers. The growth in confidence and fluency we are hearing during reading time is amazing! Keep encouraging your child to read at least four nights per week, including one night of revising those tricky words. We are nearly ready to send home Set 11 which is so exciting!

Maths

Over the past two weeks, we’ve had a blast collecting and interpreting data. We now know our classmates' favourite milkshakes, ice cream flavours, colours, and even seasons! On Friday, we took our learning outside along Woods Road, where we collected data on the colour and number of cars passing by in a 10-minute window. Ask your child if they remember the most popular car colour in town!

Wellbeing & Safety

Next Wednesday 29th of October, we will welcome ‘Ditto’ for our annual child safety incursion. This visit is a valuable opportunity for students to learn important safety

lessons in an age-appropriate and engaging way. If you would like more information, please don't hesitate to contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Then on Friday 31st October, we will be recognising Day for Daniel, a national event dedicated to promoting child safety education and awareness. It’s an important opportunity to empower our students with strategies to stay safe and to remind them of the trusted adults in their lives. We encourage all students to wear red on the day to show their support and help raise awareness. Let’s come together as a school community to support this important message.

Religion

In Religion, we continue to explore what makes us special and unique. We are learning how small acts of kindness can help "fill each other’s buckets" and contribute to a more caring classroom. Last Friday, we attended Mass, and some of the kids were asked to take on special roles on the spot, either doing a reading or bringing up the offertory and they all did a wonderful job!

Looking Ahead

There’s a lot happening this term! Please keep an eye on the school newsletter or SIMON for updates and upcoming events.

Next week, we are excited to welcome our 2026 Prep students as they begin their transition visits over the next four weeks. This is also the time when we begin preparing our current Prep students for their transition into Year 1. Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue to raise expectations while cherishing these final special weeks with our fabulous little cohort.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our doors are always open.

Take care - Prep Team
