Magnify

As a part of the development of Magnify Sandhurst, next year our Yr3 and Yr4 students will be taught spelling using the SpellEx program. Teachers are currently undertaking professional development in this program that aligns with our structured, explicit approach to teaching and learning. SpellEx is a spelling program designed to help children in Years 3 and 4 become more confident and capable spellers. It teaches spelling in a clear, step-by-step way that makes it easier for students to understand how words work and why they’re spelled the way they are. One of the best things about SpellEx is that it doesn’t just rely on memorising word lists. Instead, it helps children learn spelling patterns and rules, so they can apply what they’ve learned to new words. This builds stronger reading and writing skills over time.

The program also uses fun and hands-on activities that appeal to different learning styles—whether your child learns best by seeing, hearing, or doing. Teachers can track progress and give extra help when needed, so no one gets left behind. For children in Years 3 and 4, who are starting to tackle more complex words, this approach will provide the support they need to grow. It will help them feel successful and proud of their learning, which boosts their confidence in the classroom and beyond.
