From the Year 6 Classroom

We’ve started Term 4 with a BANG!!! The calendar is full and so is the energy within the Yr 6 space. All of the students are embracing their learning both in and out of the learning space.
In Literacy, we've completed our novel study Can You See Me, where the students explored the life of a 11-year-old girl with autism who is navigating the landscape of starting high school. We have started our final novel study, Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend, which follows the story of Morrigan Crow, a young, unloved daughter of state Chancellor, Corvus Crow, of Great Wolfacre, living in a place called Jackalfax in the Wintersea Republic. Morrigan was born on Eventide, considered a cursed day. Because of this, she’s blamed for every unfortunate event in her town and is destined to die, like all cursed children, on her twelfth birthday. When Eventide unexpectedly arrives a year early, Morrigan is dramatically rescued by a mysterious man named Jupiter North, who takes her to the magical city of Nevermoor.
In Mathematics, we have started our new unit, ‘Location and Transformation’, where students are learning that shapes have a position in 2D space which can be changed and recorded, using Cartesian plane coordinates, including negative integers.
In Religion, we’re beginning our new unit ‘Sacred Stories’, where the students are learning the significance of sacred stories, particularly from the Bible, and how they influence beliefs, values, and cultures.
In Inquiry, we have completed our “Systems of Government’, unit by completing role plays relating to the House of Representatives and the Senate. We have now shifted our focus to the Biological Science: Living Things and their Environment. This unit focuses on how the physical conditions of the environment affect the survival of living things and the organisms that live in extreme environments.
It continues to be a busy and rewarding term, creating lifelong memories as they near towards the end of their primary school journey!
