From the Year 3 Classroom

Week Three is here already, the term is certainly underway with lots of fabulous learning in Year Three.
Reading
We are continuing our class novel ‘The One & Only Ivan,’ and students have been responding well to the text. We’re also focusing on figurative language and persuasive devices in our reading.
We were lucky enough for another Live cross with National Library Victoria, with one of our favourite authors, Craig Silvey. Craig has just released his sequel to Runt, with Runt and the Diabolical Dognapping and gave a sneak peek of what is in store for one of our favourite book characters ever, Annie Shearer and Runt.
Writing
Should animals be used in circuses? This is the writing topic we’ve been exploring in our sessions. Students have been using a range of powerful persuasive devices—including emotive language, rhetorical questions, facts, and opinions—to convince readers why animals should not be kept for entertainment. We’ll continue developing these pieces before moving into the editing and revising stages, leading to publishing.
Maths- Money, Money, Money
The past week we have been using money to conclude our addition and subtraction unit. We added money amounts to get totals, we calculated change from various money amounts, we even budgeted for an event! As cash money is used less these days, we strongly urge parents to encourage their child to add up money amounts at the supermarket, use coins and notes where possible and check for correct change to help them become money wise.
DON’T FORGET TO KEEP CONSISTENT WITH TIMESTABLES PRACTISE!
Multiplication masters
A big congratulations to Peigi Booth, Romy Carlyle and Indi Bailey, who are all Multiplication Masters this Term. Keep up the times tables practise everyone!
Inquiry
This week we have researched a variety of unique natural places in Australia such as Wave Rock, Umpherson Sinkhole and The Pinnacles. This week we will share our facts about Australia we have discovered and investigate some man-made features across our great land.
Religious Education
We continue our unit ‘For Creation Praise’. This week students are completing video clips of their favourite elements of creation complete with photos and music.
