Michelle Blake Award
The Rotary Peninsula 2.0 Club proudly supports the Carrum Coast Guard Fun Run, with 100% of registration funds being returned directly to the local community through a range of initiatives and programs.
One of the major sponsors of the Carrum Coast Guard Fun Run is The Sports Injury Clinic (TSIC). In recognition of its partnership and the legacy of a remarkable team member, the event's 10km race is named in honour of Michelle Blake.
Michelle was a dedicated physiotherapist at The Sports Injury Clinic who overcame significant challenges and adversity throughout her life. Through determination, resilience and perseverance, she pursued her education, completed university studies, qualified as a physiotherapist and made a meaningful contribution to her community. Sadly, Michelle passed away at the age of 49 following illness.
To honour her legacy, TSIC sponsors the Michelle Blake Award, which supports young people who have demonstrated resilience in overcoming adversity while pursuing their sporting aspirations. The award provides a $250 contribution towards sporting equipment, participation costs or other sport-related expenses.
This year, two EXCEL Sport program students participated in the 2026 Carrum Coast Guard Fun Run and were selected as recipients of the Michelle Blake Award in recognition of their perseverance and commitment in the face of adversity:
Giaan P
Tinashe B
Congratulations to both students on this well-deserved recognition. We wish them every success as they continue to pursue their sporting goals and aspirations.

On Friday 12 June, thirteen students from the EXCEL Sport Program in Year 8 (Tyler F, Taylah G, Leo K, Mackinley L, Mila M, Seb M and Scarlett W) and Year 9 (Raph D, Angus L, Mila M, Alya O, Matila O and Baxter Q) travelled to Marvel Stadium to represent Patterson River Secondary College at the 2026 Hearld Sun Shield Season launch.
The event brought together students, teachers, coaches and school sport representatives from across Victoria to celebrate school football, recognise achievements from the 2025 season and preview an exciting year ahead for the Herald Sun Shield competition.
Upon arrival, students had the opportunity to view and take photos with the 2026 AFL and AFLW Premiership Cups before enjoying afternoon tea.
Throughout the afternoon, students heard from a range of guest speakers, including representatives from talent pathway programs and past and present AFL and AFLW players. The presentations provided valuable insights into the opportunities and pathways through school football. The event also celebrated the achievements of schools from the 2025 Herald Sun Shield season, with students and coaches sharing their experiences and successes.
Patterson River Secondary College was also invited to participate in a panel discussion, where students gave an insight into the school’s success in winning three out of the four titles at the 2025 AFL Nines Competition. Raph D, Mackinley L and Seb M spoke beautifully on behalf of their teammates, it was a proud moment for the school to recognise the students’ hard work and achievements on the football field.
It was a great day and an excellent way to launch the school football season and we cannot wait to see what this season brings for our EXCEL Sport students!
A special thank you and congratulations to all students who attended the event on their student free day and thank you to Ms Brand, Mr Wager and Mr Bowling who supported the students throughout the day.

Years 8 & 10 Mixed Tri-Tag Gala Day
On Friday 19 June, the Year 8 and 10 EXCEL Sport classes represented Patterson River Secondary College in the Mixed Tri Tag Gala Day Event at La Trobe University, Bundoora. The competition was played in a fast-paced round-robin format, with each team playing four games plus finals, with games being played with 8 a side, with 4 boys and 4 girls on the field at any given time.
The students displayed outstanding teamwork, sportsmanship and determination throughout the competition, with both Year 8 teams finishing top 2 after their four round robin games. They were set to play against each other in the Grand Final to determine a winner. The Blue team were undefeated throughout the entire day, including their earlier clash with the Red Team. In a thrilling Patterson River Secondary College Grand Final, it was the Blue team who remained undefeated and won the title for the Year 7 and 8 competitions.
The Year 10 teams also achieved remarkable success, mirroring the Year 8 results, with the Blue team finishing top of the ladder, undefeated all day and the Red team finishing 2nd, only having lost one game and that was against their fellow peers, the Blue team.
The two teams were set to play each other in the Grand Final to determine the winner of their age group. In an exciting twist, it was the Red team that dominated from the very start of the game and put scores on the board early and claimed victory!
Congratulations to all our EXCEL Sport super stars! With all teams entering being top 2 in their respective age groups it was a fantastic day out for Patterson River Secondary College!
Thank you to Mr Walton for being the super coach of Year 8 and Ms Allan for being the super coach of Year 10. Finally, a special thank you to Cuan R and Lachlan C for supporting their classmates and scoring for the day!

Victorian Country AFL
A massive congratulations to the following students who have been selected in the Vic Country AFL Squads for their respective age groups.
We have Cuan R representing the Under 16 Vic Country AFL team and Gus K representing the Under 18 Vic Country AFL team. They will be competing in the 2026 Marsh AFL National Development Championships, a competition that features the most talented boys’ and girls’ footballers across Australia played throughout June and July, with matches scheduled across the country.
Cuan played his first game on Monday 8 June, with Vic Country 15.13 (103). defeating Vic Metro 8.7 (55). Playing as a high forward, Cuan showcased his excellent kicking skills inside 50 and worked hard around the ground.
With two more pool games in the competition, Cuan may find himself playing on the wing, in the forward line or in the backline, depending on where his team needs him the most. His strong skill set, clean ball handling and versatility make him a reliable player in any position.
We are excited to see what else Cuan can bring to the Vic Country team and we cannot wait to hear about Gus’ first game for Vic Country. Outstanding work boys!
