Year 7 Term 2 Highlights
Our Year 7 Term 2 Celebration Assembly was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the achievements, growth and spirit demonstrated by our students throughout the Term. It was wonderful to come together as a community to recognise success across a range of areas including learning, behaviour, sport and leadership.
Student Leadership
A big congratulations to our 2026 Year 7 Student Leaders: Ashton, Clementine, Axel, Ivy, Chloe, Claudia, Madi and Max. These students have already shown great initiative and commitment to representing their peers and contributing positively to the school community. They hosted a wonderful assembly.
Celebrating Our School Values
Throughout the assembly, we recognised students who consistently demonstrate our school values: Persistence, Excellence, Community and Respect. These values underpin everything we do at Patterson River Secondary College, encouraging students to face challenges, strive for their personal best and support those around them.
This term, Year 7 students have embraced these values with enthusiasm. An impressive 532 positive behaviour posts were recorded during Term 2, highlighting the many ways students are contributing positively in the classroom and beyond. These posts are shared with families via Compass and celebrate everyday actions that make a difference.
Special congratulations to our top positive post recipients:
- Archie C – 9 posts
- Pat B, Pat R and Seth L – 8 posts
- Alexander B, Chloe S and Didi A – 7 posts
Attendance Matters
Strong attendance is key to success and we were proud to acknowledge students who demonstrated this outstanding commitment:
- 100% attendance: Marcus, Bill and Spice
99% attendance: Alexander and Hendrix
Sport and Co-Curricular Success
It has been an exciting term in sport. Congratulations to Chloe and Sebastian, who have progressed to the State level in cross country, an outstanding achievement!
Our Year 7 Boys Soccer team also had a fantastic day, finishing as champions with five straight wins. This success is a reflection of their teamwork, effort and determination.
Student Achievement Spotlight
We were also proud to recognise some remarkable individual achievements:
- Tinashe (7H) received the Michelle Blake Award from Frankston Rotary for his dedication, passion and “never-give-up” attitude.
- Ruby (7E) has been cast in the new ABC series Little Lunch—an exciting opportunity and we look forward to seeing her on screen soon!
Community Connections
A special thank you to our Year 7 students who supported local primary school visits as Grade 5 Helpers. Your leadership, enthusiasm and willingness to engage with younger students made a strong impression and helped build valuable connections with our feeder schools.
Wellbeing Focus
As part of our ongoing Wellbeing Program, students also heard from Ms Lang about the effective use of fidget tools. When used appropriately, these can support focus and reduce anxiety, helping students remain engaged in their learning.
Music and Performance
The assembly featured wonderful performances from our Year 7 Band and Rock Band (Nina, Pearl and Axel), showcasing the musical talents developing within our cohort.
As Term 2 comes to a close, we are incredibly proud of the way our Year 7 students have grown in confidence, resilience and community spirit. Thank you to our students, staff and families for your continued support.
We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to another great term ahead!

Year 8 Frankston Tech School Visit
Over the past 18 months, the teaching staff and students from Patterson River Secondary College have been involved in helping to support the creation and development of teaching programs at the new Frankston Tech School, which is located on the Chisholm Campus in Frankston. This new technical school has been built by the Victorian Department of Education to support the teaching and learning of STEM skills for several schools in the Frankston local area.
During the first week of June, all the Year 8 students at the College were given the opportunity to attend an exciting excursion to Frankston Tech School, where they participated in a range of hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities.
On each day of the week, two different Year 8 form groups and staff were driven by bus to the Frankston Tech School, where the students then completed 2 different design activities.
Throughout the day, students worked collaboratively to solve challenges, design projects and explore new technologies. Activities included using new digital microscopes, designing and printing creative artwork for personal key chains, coding, engineering tasks and problem-solving exercises that encouraged creativity and critical thinking. Over the week, a total of 231 students and 14 staff attended the STEM activities at the Tech School.
The excursion provided students with a valuable opportunity to experience STEM learning in a practical environment and gain insight into future study and career pathways. Students were highly engaged and enjoyed working with the state-of-the-art specialised equipment and learning from experienced staff.
The visit was both educational and inspiring, helping students develop important skills while fostering a greater interest in STEM subjects. We will continue to provide opportunities for the students from Patterson River Secondary College to access and utilise the facilities and programs available at the Frankston Tech School.

Term 2 in Learning for Life
Term 2 has been an incredibly rewarding and enriching time for our Year 9 students. A key focus of the program has been supporting students to grow as learners who are curious, engaged and committed to making a positive contribution to the world around them.
Throughout the term, students have embraced opportunities to take ownership of their learning. From exploring Science electives aligned with their interests and passions, to strengthening their English skills and developing practical financial literacy skills.
Let’s hear from our Year 9 Student Leaders as they reflect on their Learning for Life journey and share their experiences.
“With Term 2 coming to an end we can reflect on all of the fun things we did like city trips, science electives, interschool sports and much more. For majority of students, myself included, the city trips were a definite highlight for the term. Getting to go off on our own and navigate the city while completing challenges was a great experience, we are looking forward to more later in the school year.” – Mila
“This term has been such an engaging and fun way to continue our year. From city trips which allowed us to experience independence and choice, to starting new topics in L4L, it has provided many new opportunities which we shouldn't take for granted.”– Monica
“Term 2 has been a pretty great term with two city trips where we were given the chance to go off in our own groups, plenty of different science electives and many Learning for Life subjects. Semester 1 electives have come to an end, with us now beginning a fresh bunch of them for Term 3. I’m sure everyone is looking forward to another great term as Year 9 students.” – Eamon
“This term in Learning for Life we have done countless activities that have been exciting and engaging. My favourite Learning for Life experience was the Melbourne Challenge. We were given countless challenges that we had to complete in an allocated time with our small group before we then went to IMAX to watch Jane Goodall - Reasons for Hope. An inspiring documentary on her life and why she believed we should still have hope in the world. We have completed business and economics work designed to prepare us for our futures and figuring out what they could look like. As well as having some choice in our learning as we participated in our science electives. We gained knowledge and completed a CAT from our chosen subject then we delved deeper by researching a rich question on our topic which we then shared to a small group of fellow Year 9 students.” – Felicity
“Term 2 was filled to the brim with tonnes of fun and exciting opportunities for Year 9 students. This term came with the chance for us to go to the city twice, each with a different fun challenge and twist that allowed us to experience what the world outside school had to offer. We also had tonnes of fun in the classroom with our choice of electives as well as being able to complete science work with the rest of our peers through the L4L program, which deepened our connection with others and the science of the world around us!” – Ted
“Term 2 was very fun as there were so many new things to do and experience in L4L. My favourite thing to do was going to the city trips and participating in activities that enabled us to develop independence whilst building our navigation skills around Melbourne. I know that we are all looking forward to the Amazing Race that is coming in Term 3 and other experiences that will take us out of the classroom to develop our skills and knowledge.” - Raph
“Term 2 had us working together in groups during most lessons, including our health promotion CAT. We were tasked with creating a campaign to positively influence the health of teenagers. It was great during the city trips this term having a bit more freedom while completing the activities and challenges. They were loads of fun and a highlight for most of us.” - Ivy-Rose
