Bilingual Puppet Show
For the second year running, Patterson River Secondary College welcomed Carrousel Theatre to bring a German English puppet performance of Aschenputtel (Cinderella) to life in the Performing Arts Centre.
Our Year 7s were anything but quiet audience members, calling out warnings to Aschenputtel at all the right moments. Students walked away having picked up new vocabulary and, more importantly, having discovered they understood far more German than they expected.
It's a brilliant reminder that language learning isn't only about words: tone, gestures and a bit of puppet magic go a long way, too!

German Film Festival
For the fourth year running, Patterson River Secondary College students headed into the city for the German Film Festival. 48 students from German elective classes across Years 8 to 12 packed into the Kino Cinema on Collins Street to watch the amazing movie Das geheime Stockwerk (The Secret Floor).
After the film, we strolled down to the Hofbräuhaus, where the entire upstairs floor was ours for a proper German Mittagessen (lunch): Bretzeln, Käsespätzle, Nürnberger Würstchen and Schnitzel all made an appearance. Lecker! Even the trains not running couldn't dampen the mood and everyone rolled back into Carrum tired, full and very happy.

Poetry Competition Try-outs
The Community Room was buzzing with nervous energy and good spirit as Year 7 and Year 8 students lined up to recite this year's chosen poem for a place on the College's German Poetry Competition team. Nerves were steadied with snacks, drinks and a few laughs before showtime and every single student who got up to recite deserves a round of applause for their courage alone.
After some seriously impressive recitations, our Year 7 team is: Clementine P, Max K, Hannah A and Selda S, with Bill G and Shrihaan P as alternates.
Representing Year 8 at the regional final: Maya D, Raya K, Andrew H and Theo T, with Lachlan J and Sophie D as alternates.
Congratulations to all our poets for their confidence and commitment and ‘Viel Glück’ (good luck) to our regional final team, who'll be competing right here at Patterson River Secondary College in August.
