Junior Girls Footy

On Wednesday 26 May, the Year 7 and 8 Girls Junior Football Team ventured to Lloyd Park, Langwarrin to compete in the Northern Peninsula Division Interschool AFL competition.

The Patterson River Secondary College Junior Team was made up of Claudia C, Bella G, Annabella M, Pearl O, Pipiena P, Chloe S, Lucy S, Bella S, Madi T, Shapi T and Alice Z from Year 7 and Savannah C, Isabella G, Georgia H, Hannah K, Mackinley L, Maddy R, Harper S, Penni S, Scarlett W and Jayla W from Year 8.

The team was set to play four matches throughout day, with the winners of the competition progressing to the next round. The first game was against Elisabeth Murdoch College and our captains Bella G and Mackinley L set the precedent for the day and led from the start, working hard for the ball. The game ended in a draw in a low scoring game, with both teams finishing on 2 points.

The girls’ second game was against Frankston High School who scored the first goal of the game. However, it was Patterson River Secondary College that quickly reacted, switched on and started playing awesome team football, not allowing Frankston High School any further scoring opportunities. The teams ability to keep possession of the ball was great to see, as was the effort shown by the players at every contest. The final score resulted in a win for Patterson River Secondary College 17 – 6.

By the girls third and fourth games, they were working smoothly as a team and kept McClelland College and Carrum Downs Secondary College scoreless. The girls had multiple scoring opportunities and their ability to keep the ball in their forward 50 for the majority of both games was awesome to watch. Final scores were 39 – 0 and 57 – 0.

Both Elisabeth Murdoch College and Patterson River Secondary College ended with 3 wins and a draw, it was decided that they would play another game against each other to determine the winner for the day. Unfortunately, Elisabeth Murdoch College had a great start and were able to get a goal on the board early on. Our girls’ efforts were outstanding however it was not enough as their opposition scored an additional 3 points even with Isabella G's awesome goal, the siren went and Elisabeth Murdoch College were deemed the winners.

We would like to thank Taylah G and Evie O (Year 8) for coming along and supporting their teammates despite not being able to play.

Another special thank you to Ms Davola and Mr McCall for being excellent coaches for the day, as well as Cuan R (Year 10) for assisting them and encouraging the girls.

Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships

On Saturday 20 June, Ashton F represented the school at the 2026 Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships held at Bundoora. Running 4km in the Male U15 race kicking off at 12:10pm, Ashton had to ensure some treacherous running conditions as he made his way around the 2km looped course.

Just as the race began, the rain did too, amplifying the muddy ground underfoot, making it even more slippery for runners and resulting in some slips, trips and falls.

Ashton, however, managed to run a clean run, completing his 2 laps of the 2 km loop in an impressive time of 14:45 to finish 28th across the finishing line. We are so proud of Ashton, representing the school at this event and putting in an impressive run. Ashton will be in good stead for the track and field season, starting in a few months. Congratulations, Ashton.

Intermediate Badminton

Patterson River Secondary College hosted the Intermediate Badminton tournament. We had a large group of Year 9 and Year 10 boys and girls making up a total of four teams. The other schools also had three to four teams each, which resulted in a very exciting day.  Students were responsible for umpiring, scoring and keeping on top of the busy schedule.

Frankston High School won all the Grand Finals with Patterson River Secondary College coming in a close second in the Boys A, Boys B, Girls A and Girls B groups.

Year 7 Boys Soccer

The Year 7 Boys soccer team had trained very well prior to competition and coaches Mr Halabi and Mr Cafiso had assembled a talented squad. Competition was at Aspendale Gardens Soccer facility and it was a beautiful space for our games.

Our first game was against Carrum Downs Secondary College and we won easily 5-2. Our next game was against highly rated Frankston High School, our boys controlled the game well and, in a tough fought game came, out winners 1-0.

Our next game was against Elisabeth Murdoch College and this was another easy win for our boys 4-0. We were really starting to play well in this game and needed to win one more game for a clean sweep and the title. Our boys kept their heads together and easily defeated McClelland College 3-0.

The boys represented our school proudly and with great spirit and had a never-giving-up attitude. We took a big squad and rotated the team around. Our boys demonstrated our school values and deserved the title.

The team consisted of the following; Ethan J, Seth L, Matthew H, Liam D, Iler M, Danny L, William F, Finn H, Akshaj K, Riley C, Max C, Jack M, Harvey G, Ilyas D, William L, Jackson M, Marcus S and Mike M.

We cannot wait to see what this team can achieve in the next round, well done boys!

Year 7 Girls Netball

The Year 7 netball squad had the pleasure of competing at Jubilee Park. Two teams played up to five games of netball per team. It was fast and furious and such a big day!

The girls played against most schools within our division and every time that they stepped on the court, they brought their best. With a mixed bag of results, the girls had a great day.

The Pool A team came so close to the title, only losing to Elisabeth Murdoch College by 1 goal in the last 2 seconds. The Pool B team had a great day out also, with some wins and some losses. The girls had a lot of fun out on the court and continued to improve throughout the day.

Thank you to our Year 10 Leaders Fern D and Renny M who coached the girls Pool B team all day.

All our players did all that they could to help the team get wins on the board.  Every game the teams played better together, learning each other’s strengths, weaknesses and abilities.  I loved seeing this.  As it was a round robin format and only the winners move on to the next round, our journey ended here.

They listened to feedback and played to the best of their ability.  I’m always so proud to walk alongside these young women as they exemplify what ‘loving sport’ looks like.

Thanks for all your hard work on such a big day.
