Market Day

On the Thursday 21 May, the Year 11 VCE Business Management students and Year 11 VCE VM students took part in running a stall for the annual College Market Day.

The stalls varied from barbeques to baked goods and even some fun games.

Everyone followed a common goal of making a profit through making as many sales as possible, trying to balance quality and quantity and manage fair prices.

Prior to the day, students spent class time planning their stalls, advertising their products and managing expenses.

Planning the stalls gave us valuable insight into the challenges associated with starting and running a business such as budgeting, marketing and trying to create an original business concept that would attract customers. This process helped us gain practical understanding and experience about entering a target market.

On the day we had multiple stores sell out within minutes, while others didn’t sell out until the end of lunch. We were able to apply the business concepts we studied in class and transfer these skills to the day.

Collectively, we generated over $2,800 in profit which was donated to It's Okay, Not To Be Okay. Market Day was a great success that provided students with an enjoyable learning experience. We look forward to seeing the creative stalls next year’s classes will bring to the day.

Market Day

The Year 11 VM students participated in the 2026 Market Day for their major Term 2 assessment. This involved a lot of planning and preparation on the students’ behalf as they had to design a market stall from scratch. The students were required to formulate an approval letter and a business idea to get their market stall off the ground. Students then conducted market research to help guide what products would be successful amongst the student cohort.

Each group then participated in a marketing campaign through the creation of digital posters and signage designed to catch the attention of prospective customers. The students all worked on a budget through the demonstration of financial planning skills and also ensured the event would be safe through a thorough occupational health and safety assessment.

The day itself was extremely successful with most groups selling out of product by the end of lunch. The event was very popular as indicated by the large lines waiting at each stall. The Year 11 VM group should be very proud of their achievements as they were able to raise a significant amount of money which went towards their chosen charity ‘It’s Okay Not To Be Okay’.

Year 11 VCE VM Term 2

This term has been busy and rewarding, with lots of opportunities for students to learn new skills and gain real-world experiences. One of the biggest highlights was our Market Day. Students worked together to plan and run stalls and we're proud that they were able to raise money for ‘It’s okay not to be okay’, supporting an important cause while developing teamwork and communication skills.

Some of our female students attended the Women in Trade Expo, where they learned about the many career opportunities available in the trades industry. Students interested in trade pathways also had the chance to attend a CFMEU excursion, where they saw tradespeople in action and gained a better understanding of what working in the industry is really like.

As part of our Community unit, we visited Melbourne Zoo and participated in an educational session that explored how different groups and organisations can work together to support communities and protect the environment. It was a great opportunity to see the concepts we have been learning about in class applied in a real-world setting.

This Semester, many also completed valuable qualifications, including our First Aid, Food Handling and Responsible Service of Alcohol certificates. These qualifications will help students as we move towards future employment and training opportunities.

Term 2 has given students the chance to challenge themselves, develop new skills and learn more about future pathways. We are proud of what we have achieved this term and are looking forward to and busy and exciting Term 3.

Year 12 Careers Expo

Year 12 VM students proudly displayed their knowledge and skills from their chosen career path and/or current VET course. Year 9 and 10 students had the opportunity to ask questions  around possible future careers before the course counselling process is completed.

Trade & Tech Expo

On Tuesday 2 June, a group of Years 9-12 students made their way into the city to investigate the Trade and Tech Fit Career Expo. Students were given a tote bag on arrival and were able to make their way around the wide range of exhibitors across the Exhibition centre.

It was great to see the students having conversations with stall holders and engaging in a wide range of interactive activities that were on hand. We hope that this excursion opportunity sparks some interest in future career fields that would not have traditionally been advertised to females.
