Bonjour, dear parents and students,
French assessments for Prep–Grade 2 students took place during Week 5, and assessments for Grades 3–6 will take place during Week 6. We are very proud of all students for their effort and enthusiasm throughout the term so far!
Thank you to all students who auditioned for the French Day Fashion Show. We have now selected the students who will be performing. Any students interested in auditioning to dance at the French Day Assembly are encouraged to speak to a French teacher. Students auditioning should prepare a short dance to one of the following songs:

Congratulations to all students who participated in the French Poetry Competition on Friday, May 22nd. Thank you for your commitment, courage, and effort on the day. We are very proud of everyone who took part, and we look forward to announcing the results soon!
Below is a snapshot of what each year level has been learning during Weeks 3–5:
Prep
Prep students have been learning the names of different farm animals in French, as well as how to express preferences using J’aime (I like) and Je n’aime pas (I don’t like). Students completed their written assessment in Week 5.
Grade 1
Students have been learning the names of classroom objects in French and using the phrase Il y a (There is) to describe what is in the classroom. Students completed their written assessment in Week 5.
Grade 2
Students have continued learning about wild animals by adding colours and ensuring correct adjective agreement depending on the gender of the animal. They also revised emotions in French. Students completed their written assessment in Week 5.
Grade 3
Students have been learning how to conjugate regular -ER verbs using the subject pronouns:
- Je (I)
- Tu (You)
- Il/Elle (He/She)
They also explored weather vocabulary and practiced describing the weather in different cities and countries.
Grade 4
Students have continued learning about emotions by transforming adjectives into nouns (for example, happy → happiness). They also extended their understanding of regular -ER verb conjugation using:
- Nous (We)
- Vous (You)
- Ils/Elles (They)
In addition, students expanded their knowledge of numbers from 0–80.
Grade 5
Students have been extending their understanding of negation by using ne and pas in a wider range of sentence structures. They have also been learning two different ways to ask questions in French and how to use these questions in surveys and interviews.
Grade 6
Students have continued building their understanding of negation using ne and pas in more complex sentences. They have also been learning three different ways to ask questions in French and how to formulate these questions in surveys.
Jour de la Francophonie (French Day)
Thursday, June 26th, 2026
Thank you again to all students who auditioned for the French Day Fashion Show. Students selected for the performance are now practicing their catwalks in preparation for the big day! Students who are interested in auditioning for a dance performance are encouraged to speak to their French teacher.
This whole-school celebration will feature performances from the French Choir, poetry recitals, fashion, dance, and music, showcasing the richness and diversity of Francophone cultures from around the world.
French Poetry Competition
Congratulations again to all contestants who participated in the French Poetry Competition on May 22nd. We are very proud of your dedication and bravery in performing in French. Fingers crossed for the results!
