Maths Faculty

Mathematics is the only universal language to ever exist. It brings the world a common understanding, harmony and unity.

Welcome to Term 1!

The Maths Faculty has had a fantastic start to the year! It has been wonderful to see students engaging enthusiastically with new concepts, challenging themselves and building confidence in their mathematical thinking. We are excited about the year ahead and the many opportunities for growth, problem-solving and collaboration.

Recent and Upcoming Assessments:

Below is an overview of recent assessment tasks for Years 7-10:

Year 7 completed a take home assessment which was due in Week 6 based on the unit of Making Predictions. Students applied probability rules to a range of scenarios, calculating theoretical probabilities and using experimental probabilities to predict results in an experiment.

Year 8 completed a take-home assessment task which was due in Week 6 on their Shape and Skew unit. Students applied probability and data analysis skills to a range of scenarios and had to interpret the data to draw conclusions.

Year 9 submitted a take-home assessment task in Week 5 on their Geometrical Representations Unit. Students applied their knowledge of Scale Factors and Similarity to floor plans, calculate unknown angles and sides, and to generate similar figures.

Year 10 have a take-home assessment due in Week 8 based on their Surveying Topic. Students applied their knowledge of trigonometry, bearings, and angles of elevation and depression to some real-life contexts and strengthened their mathematical reasoning in this task.

Chess Club - Thursdays

Chess Club continues to run during Break 1 every Thursday and is open to students of all experience levels. Chess is a fantastic way to develop strategic thinking, problem solving skills and concentration, which are skills that strongly complement mathematical learning. We welcome new members at any time and encourage students to come along, challenge themselves, and enjoy the friendly competition.

Tournament of Minds - Starting Term 2

We are excited to announce that our school will once again be participating in the Tournament of Minds program starting in Term 2. This program provides students with the opportunity to extend their critical thinking, creativity and teamwork skills through engaging long-term challenges. Students who are interested in being involved are encouraged to speak to Mr Tull for more information.

The Maths Faculty is passionate about fostering curiosity, resilience and a growth mindset in every classroom. We look forward to celebrating our student’s achievements throughout the year and continuing to build a vibrant and supportive mathematical community.

Let’s make 2026 a year of confidence, challenges and success in Mathematics!
