As the new Principal of Francis Greenway High School, it is my great pleasure to warmly welcome all members of our school community to the 2026 school year. I hope you and your families enjoyed a safe and restful break. I am genuinely excited about the year ahead and confident that, working together, we will continue to build a successful, inclusive and supportive environment where every student can thrive.

I would like to extend a very special welcome to our new Year 7 students and their families, along with all students and families who are joining our school community this year. Starting high school is a significant milestone, and it has been wonderful to see our Year 7 students settle in so positively. They have embraced new routines, new friendships and new learning experiences with enthusiasm and maturity. We are also proud of our Year 11 cohort, many of whom have returned with a renewed sense of focus and determination as they begin this important stage of their senior studies.

At Francis Greenway High School, our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework underpins everything we do. Our core values Respect, Responsibility, Commitment and Cooperation are the foundation of our school culture. When students demonstrate respect for others, take responsibility for their actions, show commitment to their learning and cooperate with staff and peers, they contribute to a safe, positive and productive learning environment for all.

A key aspect of responsibility is arriving at school prepared each day. Bringing the correct equipment and being ready to learn are simple but powerful actions that set students up for success. Being organised not only supports academic achievement but also demonstrates respect for teachers and classmates.

Attendance Matters

Regular attendance is essential for student success. Every day at school counts. When students attend consistently, they engage more deeply with their learning, build stronger relationships with peers and staff, and benefit from the continuity of instruction. Missing just one day per fortnight equates to approximately four full weeks of learning lost over the course of a year.

We greatly value the partnership between school and home in supporting strong attendance. Together, we can ensure that students develop positive habits that will support them not only at school but throughout their lives.

Behaviour Support and High Expectations

Just as attendance is vital, positive behaviour plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment. We hold high expectations for all students and are committed to ensuring every young person feels welcomed, supported and valued. We encourage families to continue working closely with us to reinforce positive behaviour both at school and in the wider community.

School Uniform

We are pleased with the strong commitment shown by the majority of our students in wearing the full school uniform each day. Our uniform promotes school pride, belonging and equity. A reminder to families that uniform items must be official school uniform pieces purchased through the school. Non-school shirts, tights or other streetwear items are not acceptable and may result in a non-compliance being issued.

Students who are not in full uniform will continue to be reminded of expectations and may be subject to consequences, including restrictions from representing the school at non-mandatory excursions or sporting events. We appreciate the ongoing support of families in maintaining these standards.

Year Advisers play an important role in supporting students and families. They are the first point of contact for general concerns. Parents and carers wishing to speak with a Year Adviser are asked to contact the school administration office to make an appointment, as staff have teaching and supervisory commitments throughout the day.

NAPLAN

Our Year 7 and Year 9 students will soon undertake NAPLAN testing. This provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning progress in literacy and numeracy. We encourage students to approach NAPLAN with confidence and to simply do their best, remembering that it is one measure within their broader learning journey.

Working Together

Strong schools are built on strong partnerships. I warmly invite families to become involved in our school community whether through volunteering in the canteen, joining the P&C, or supporting school events and initiatives. Your involvement strengthens the connection between home and school and enhances the educational experience of all students.

I look forward to a productive and successful year ahead and to working alongside you to ensure every student at Francis Greenway High School is supported to reach their full potential.
