💖 Emotional Regulation: Helping Kids with Big Feelings
All children experience big emotions — like anger, sadness, frustration or excitement. Learning how to recognise and manage feelings helps children get along with others and handle challenges calmly.
🧘♀️ You can help by:
- Naming feelings: “It looks like you’re feeling angry/sad/frustrated.”
- Showing calm behaviour: Children learn by watching adults.
- Teaching simple calming skills: Deep breathing, counting to ten, or taking a short break.
- Talking after the moment: Once calm, discuss what happened and what they could try next time.
When children can manage their emotions, they are better able to focus, learn and build positive friendships.
