Dear Tarneit Rise Primary School Families and Friends

Welcome back to Term 2! We hope you had a restful but active holiday. We are very excited to begin another term of PE and continue watching the students develop and grow their skills.

Student Shoutout Dhiyash

Dhiyash participated in IFA Soccer Tournament, Sydney with SDC program and have won the U12 Division 1 Championship. On top of that, Dhiyash was awarded as the MVP for U12 category by the western wanderers scouting team. They played 14 matches across 4 days, and Dhiyash scored 11 goals and 4 assists. It was a highly competitive tournament, and we are so glad about the results.

Preps:

The Preps are starting the term by learning the skill of dribbling. They have been using their penguin feet to control the ball and move it around a circuit of cones without touching any. The students' goal is to keep the ball at their feet and not let the ball get too far away from them.

Grade 1s and 2s:

Grade 1s and 2s have been following a catching circuit to practice using different methods of catching depending on the object that they are catching. We have been using our W hands as well as our triangle hands to catch high throws.

Grade 3s and 4s:

Grade 3s have started their first invasion games unit and have been focusing on their 3 step bounce dribble technique to move with the ball, as well as applying defensive strategies within a game to restrict scoring and win the ball back from the attacking team. The grade 3s have been introduced to European Handball, which will teach them the fundamentals of invasion games that will allow them to transition into games like soccer and football.

Grade 4s have started their invasion unit and started off with practicing their 3-step bounce dribble. In their second week, they have moved into creating and finding space to receive the ball through the use of the Ajax grids. These grids encourage students to move to a new space after they have passed the ball.

Grades 5s and 6s:

Grade 5s have started their invasion game unit with identifying where there is free space on a field and how they can move into it after they have made a pass. They have also started playing the invasion game European Handball.

Grade 6s have started their invasion unit as well looking at empty space and how they can use attacking space to create more scoring opportunities.

Team of the Week

Team of the week is a starting 11 of students who have shown the school values in all areas of PE. They may not always be the most talented, but they have the best attitudes and eagerness to learn when it comes to PE.
