PE

As we near the end of ‘Hump Week’ and move into the second half of the term, we are seeing a lot of students becoming better runners and better Newcombe and Volleyball players. We’ve spent the first half of this term getting as much distance in our legs for the upcoming LPS Cross Country on Friday 20th March down at Lancefield Oval and Park. The kids (most) have been loving the regular runs around the school and I’m loving watching kids find themselves in the ‘Running Zone’ and continuously run the entire track. Next week, we will be moving into our Running Unit where I will be teaching technique, breathing, stride, interval training and a few other running drills I have up my sleeve.
Before I forget… I would really appreciate any parent/ carer helpers for the day of the school cross country to be course marshals. The more grown-ups around the course the better. We will have Wiley as a the ‘Safety Bike’ to ensure any injured or totally exhausted students are tended to.
The Preps have had a brilliant first half of the term. We’ve played a range of games with varying equipment to get them used to different sports and improve their hand-eye coordination. This will be ongoing, especially as we have moved into our Indoor Hockey unit. We’ve only had one session but they did well, totally understanding the importance of stick safety and how to care for the equipment. I’m looking forward to seeing how much they improve and enjoy this sport for the rest of term. We can’t forget the all-important dance at the start of class. The most joyous part of my week!!!
We have the COBAW Summer Sports on Thursday of week 9 of the term. We are entering two Cricket teams and a Volleyball team. Go Lancefield!!
Have a great week!
