Scott Darlow

We were incredibly fortunate to welcome Scott Darlow to Lancefield Primary School for a powerful and memorable incursion. Scott is an Aboriginal singer-songwriter, public speaker and educator from Yorta Yorta Country who visits more than 100 schools and organisations each year, sharing his culture, his music and his heartfelt passion for Reconciliation.
Scott performed for our whole school, captivating students and staff with songs that reflect his culture, identity and personal journey. We were also delighted to be joined by his daughter, Kiah Darlow, an incredibly talented singer-songwriter in her own right.
In a very special collaboration, Kiah worked alongside seven of our LPS students to create a brand-new school song for Lancefield Primary School. We are so proud to now have our very own school song, written especially for our community. We look forward to sharing it at future assemblies — watch this space!
Throughout the session, Scott also deepened our understanding of Aboriginal culture. He explained how Aboriginal artwork tells stories, sharing the meaning behind the beautiful artwork displayed on his guitar, which represents his family story. Students learned about the significance of different symbols and how each element holds deep personal and cultural meaning.
We were also treated to the rich, resonant sounds of the didgeridoo, experiencing firsthand how music can be a powerful way to tell stories and share history.
It was an engaging, educational and inspiring experience for our entire school community, and we are so grateful to Scott and Kiah for sharing their time, talents and culture with us.
