Principal's Report

Please read this lovely update from Kyneton High! Well done to all our past LPS students at Kyneton High and well done Zoe!
Welcome to Year 7 at Kyneton High School
Kyneton High School recently held a special assembly to welcome its new Year 7 students into the school community.
As part of a meaningful tradition, Year 12 leaders formed a guard of honour as the Year 7s entered the hall, symbolising support, belonging and the beginning of their high school journey.
The Raven is KHS’s mascot, inspired by the many ravens around the school grounds and chosen for their intelligence, curiosity and strong social bonds. In this assembly, our Year 12 school captains each introduced a Year 7 student who has volunteered to speak about their hopes for their time at high school on behalf of their homegroup, and to inspire those raven-like qualities in students and staff.
Many in the Lancefield PS community will remember Zoe from her Year 6 days last year. Now stepping confidently into Year 7, Zoe represented her cohort at the assembly, introduced by Year 12 leader Sarah. Zoe shared a quote from James Joyce: “Mistakes are the portals of discovery.” She reflected on how mistakes are an important part of learning — especially in Year 7, when everything is new. Zoe is looking forward to making new friends and participating in interschool sport, and hopes to bring kindness to her new school community.
We are incredibly proud of the confidence Zoe showed speaking in front of the entire school, and are so happy to be able to share this news with our friends at Lancefield PS!
Wishing you all a great school year!

Easing into adolescence: resources for families
Free resources for families of adolescents aged 10 to 14 years.
The Department of Education has launched an Easing into adolescence webpage for families of students aged 10 to 14 (Grade 5 to Year 8).
The webpage has information and strategies you can use to help ease your child into adolescence and secondary school. These include:
a guide to emotion coaching. Staff from The University of Melbourne’s Tuning in to Teens Kids program developed the guidance.
how to support your adolescent with their studies and more generally. Parenting expert and clinical psychologist Andrew Fuller helped develop this resource.
Subtitles for videos by The University of Melbourne on the webpage are available in 10 languages. You can select your preferred language on the translations page.
For questions about these resources, contact the Strategic Partnerships, Transitions and Student Voice team. You can email them at Secondary.School.Transition@education.vic.gov.au.

NAPLAN 2026
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake. As students progress through their school years, it is important to check how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy. NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum, and allows parents and carers to see how their child is progressing against national proficiency standards. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with more information about students’ educational progress. NAPLAN testing begins at LPS on Wednesday 11th March. All parents and carers or year 3 and 5 students have been sent information via Compass.
