Wellbeing Moments

Welcome to your Wellbeing Moment: a chance to pause for a minute and reflect on something small but important. There’s nothing you need to do – just take from it whatever feels useful to you.

This week’s focus is Self-Discipline

Taking control of your choices.

Imagine this, you're supposed to be studying and instead you're scrolling, because let’s be honest, we’ve all been there. You promised yourself an early night and suddenly it's late and you haven’t made much progress on your to-do list.

Self-discipline is about choosing what future you needs over what right-now you wants.

You're probably already using self-discipline without realising:

  • Going to training, even when you're tired, so that future you plays better
  • Putting your phone in another room to study, so future you isn't stressed the night before a test
  • Going to bed on time, so future you isn’t tired
  • Saying no to something, so that future you has time for what matters

It's not about being hard on yourself or cutting out fun. It's actually the opposite, it's about doing stuff that helps you feel good, not just in the moment, but also to benefit you further down the track.

Start by picking one thing that matters to you, then work backwards.

What does future you need?

What's one small choice right now that gets you there?

Sometimes it's as simple as putting your phone in another room or telling a friend you're not free.

Remember to reward yourself for making consistent choices for future you and always prioritise self-care in between.
