Year 10 – Building a Resume

Our recent Year 10 MyPath session focused on creating a resume and preparing for casual employment.

Students explored the key sections of a professional resume and began developing their own resume suitable for applying for casual or part-time work.

Students who haven't completed their resume will have an opportunity to continue working on it in an upcoming MyPath lesson.

Year 11 – Planning for 2027

It has been a busy couple of weeks for Year 11 students considering their options for Year 12.

Students interested in University Enabling Programs or VET courses for 2027 have been completing their applications.

This week, we have also been interviewing students who applied for university enabling pathways. These interviews provide an opportunity to discuss students' university goals, current academic progress and whether an enabling pathway may be a suitable option for Year 12.

Students will be advised of the outcomes of their applications once the selection process is complete.

Year 12 – University Consultations

Last Friday was a very busy and successful day, with representatives from all five WA universities meeting individually with our Year 12 students throughout the day.

Students had 15-minute one-on-one consultations with university advisers and were able to discuss:

• Course choices and preferences
• Entry requirements and prerequisites
• Early Offers
• Alternative university pathways
• Scholarships
• Their individual plans for 2027

The response from students was extremely positive, with many coming away from their consultations with greater clarity about their options and the next steps they need to take.

TISC & Early Offers

Students applying to university should now be actively working on their TISC application and course preferences.

For Curtin, ECU, Murdoch and UWA, a student's first TISC preference will automatically be considered for an Early Offer if the course is eligible.

2026 TISC Early Offer rounds:

• 5 October – First Early Offer round
• 2 December – Final Early Offer round

Students can continue to change their TISC preferences as their plans develop.

University & Pathway Opportunities

Notre Dame Early Offers

Notre Dame's Early Offer Program operates separately from the TISC Early Offer rounds, with students able to apply directly to the University.

Students are encouraged to include supporting documentation such as school reports, community service, employment, sporting and arts achievements, awards and leadership experiences.

Notre Dame Early Offer rounds:

• 1 September
• 17 September
• 1 October
• 7 December

Early Offer applications close 30 November.

Murdoch University – Law Start

Students interested in studying Law should explore Law Start, Murdoch University's alternative admission pathway.

Law Start recognises students performing strongly in one or more ATAR subjects, particularly those involving essay writing and communication, and provides an alternative pathway for students who may not meet the traditional entry requirements for Law.

ECU Apple Foundation Program

One final reminder for students interested in technology, innovation, app development and creative problem-solving about ECU's Apple Foundation Program.

This free three-week program introduces students aged 16 and over to app development, Swift coding, design thinking and teamwork. No previous coding experience is required.

Students can submit an Expression of Interest through ECU.

Tax Essentials Workshop – Forrestfield Library

Wednesday 19 August | 3:30–4:30pm

A useful free workshop for high school students who are looking for a part-time job or preparing to enter the workforce.

Students will learn about:

• Tax and Tax File Numbers
• Superannuation
• Income tax returns and deductions
• ABNs
• Employment obligations
• What to remember at tax time

Everyone attending will receive a Tax Essentials booklet, and pizza will be provided.

Career Spotlight – Surveying & Geospatial Careers

Ever wondered who decides exactly where a new road, building, railway or property boundary should go?

Surveyors and geospatial professionals use sophisticated technology to measure, map and understand the world around us.

Careers include:

• Land Surveyor
• Engineering Surveyor
• Mine Surveyor
• Hydrographic Surveyor
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist
• Geospatial Analyst
• Drone Mapping Specialist

Surveyors can work across construction, mining, property development, infrastructure, environmental management and government.

What does a Surveyor do?

Modern surveying involves much more than standing behind a tripod.

Surveyors may use:

• GPS and satellite technology
• Drones
• 3D laser scanners
• Digital mapping
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
• Computer modelling

The work can combine technology, mathematics and problem-solving with time spent outdoors and on different project sites.

Pathways

Students can enter the industry through both university and VET pathways, depending on the type of surveying or geospatial career they wish to pursue.

Students interested in surveying should particularly consider developing strong skills in Mathematics, Geography, Digital Technologies and Science.
