Level 1

Welcome back to Term 2! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break and are excited to begin another busy and engaging term of learning.

Reading

Last week we commemorated ANZAC Day. In our classrooms we learned about the ANZACs and their importance in shaping Australia today. We also read the story ANZAC Ted by Belinda Landsberry, a story about a bear who was a brave companion who went to war alongside soldiers, offering comfort and hope in the face of adversity.

Each class also made a wreath with poppies to lay at the flagpole at a special assembly in honour of ANZAC Day.

Writing

As we build on our understanding of narrative writing, students have been learning to create and describe interesting characters by identifying what they look like, feel like and act like. Students have used these traits as a starting point for their writing. They have come up with some fun and imaginative characters.

In Maths, students have been looking at addition and the different strategies that can be used to solve equations. These include bridging to 10, the split strategy and the jump strategy. Students have used played number games using these strategies to build their understanding.

Cross Country

We had a fantastic day at Cross Country at HE Parker reserve on Tuesday. The weather was amazing and it was wonderful to see all the students encouraging and supporting each other. Everyone put in a super effort and should be very proud of themselves for completing the course.
