Level 2

2YS Yasi Shayesteh, 2KH Kim Holmes, 2ES Elizabeth Seymour

We’ve had a wonderful start to Term 2, and it has been fantastic to see students return with such positive energy and enthusiasm for learning. Our students have settled in beautifully, showing kindness, resilience, and a strong readiness to learn. We are excited for a busy and engaging term ahead!

Reading

This term, students are building their understanding of stories by identifying characters and settings and describing their key traits and details. We are exploring how authors use language to bring these elements to life, while also focusing on story structure, recognising the beginning, middle, and end. Students are learning to sequence events and understand how they connect, including simple cause-and-effect relationships within narratives.

Writing

In Writing, we are focusing on helping students develop their ideas by distinguishing between big ideas and small, meaningful moments. This helps them add more detail and depth to their writing, making their stories more engaging and personal.

Spelling & Grammar

Our Spelling focus is on phonics for the first 2 weeks of term, specifically long-vowel patterns such as ear/eer and air/are. In Grammar, students are learning to use commas in lists and are beginning to group their sentences into simple paragraphs to organise their ideas more clearly.

Mathematics

In Maths, we are exploring place value to at least 1000. Students are learning to recognise, represent, and order numbers using a range of materials such as number lines and hands-on resources. We are also developing their understanding of how numbers can be partitioned, rearranged, and regrouped, with a focus on the important role of zero in place value.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry unit, Making Fair Choices, encourages students to think deeply about values, rights, and responsibilities. We are discussing how values such as honesty, kindness, and fairness influence the decisions we make, and how rights and responsibilities are connected. Students are also exploring how emotions can impact the choices we make in everyday situations.

Cross Country

We are very proud of all the students who participated in Cross Country. They showed great determination and resilience, trying their best and supporting one another throughout the event.
