Welcome back to the HEPS school community. Over the holiday period, works included relocating the school server from the old Administration building to the BER Comms Room, as well as completing the final stages of the fire hydrant upgrade. The next stage of works will involve the demolition of the old Administration building (July holidays) to make way for a new playground for our students.
We have certainly hit the ground running in Term 2, with a number of significant events already taking place, including our ANZAC Day ceremony, Cross Country, the Level 1 Creek Excursion and Foundation Responsible Pet Ownership incursion. Tomorrow we have a Billy Kart incursion for Foundation students. The coming weeks are equally busy. Our Level 5 students will attend camp at Sovereign Hill in Week 3, followed by our Level 4 students heading to Benloch for their adventure camp in Week 4. We also look forward to welcoming families to our Open Night in Week 5. It is shaping up to be a very busy and exciting start to the term.
A reminder that Thursday 21st May (Whole School Writing Professional Learning) and Friday 22nd May (Report Writing) are student-free days, and students are not required to attend school. TeamKids will be operating on both days.
A friendly reminder that all school events are published on Compass. We encourage all parents and carers to log in at least twice a week to stay up to date with notifications relating to their children. Please note that all events have firm deadlines for both consent and payment. These dates are carefully set by staff to allow sufficient time to finalise bookings and costs with external providers, as well as to complete required planning and Department of Education risk assessments.
For this reason, it is not possible to extend or reopen events once the due date has passed. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, we encourage you to contact the school office prior to the due date to discuss available payment options.

Congratulations to all our JSC students who were presented with their badges at assembly on Monday. This was a wonderful opportunity to recognise their leadership roles within the school. We look forward to the positive contributions they will make to our school community throughout the year.

Tuesday's whole school Cross Country was a fantastic event, with perfect weather setting the scene for a great day. Students gave their very best effort, showing determination, resilience, and plenty of school spirit while also having a great time. Thank you to all the parents who came along to support their children and help supervise.
We invite families to attend our 2027 Foundation Information Session on Thursday 7th May 6.00-6.45 PM. Our current Foundation teachers will provide valuable insights into how children can be best prepared for starting school, as well as what a typical day of learning looks like at HEPS. This session is a great opportunity to learn more about our approach and ask any questions you may have as you begin planning for your child’s school journey.
2027 Foundation Enrolments – Now Open
Foundation enrolments are now open. All Victorian government primary schools follow a statewide Prep enrolment timeline, which outlines when and how to enrol your child.
Our enrolment information pack can be accessed via the link below.

Enrolments close Friday 31 July 2026.

Last Friday our school community participated in an ANZAC Day assembly that honoured the service and sacrifice of our veterans. We were privileged to hear from Major Rick Bower, whose heartfelt speech resonated with staff and students alike. A special thank you to our school captains, Abby and Lizzy, for their thoughtful and respectful presentation.

Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria. HEPS will celebrate Education Week on Monday 18th May with an Open Night & Book Fair from 6:00–7:30 PM. All parents and members of our school community are warmly invited to attend. This year’s theme, ‘Showcase your school’, highlights the opportunity to celebrate and share the great learning and achievements happening across our school. We look forward to seeing you there.

We warmly invite you to join us for our Mother’s Day Open Classroom & Breakfast on Thursday 7th May from 8:30–10:00 am. A free breakfast will be available from 8:30–9:00 am, kindly sponsored by TeamKids (see flyer). Please note that although children can attend, we cannot cater to them, the food supplied for this breakfast will be for our Mums only. Following breakfast, students will have the opportunity to take part in a classroom activity with their mums or special friends from 9.00-10.00 AM.

It’s that special time of year again when students can celebrate and show their love and appreciation for their mothers or another special person in their lives by choosing a thoughtful Mother’s Day gift. Students may bring up to $15 to purchase a gift. Don’t forget to send your child with a shopping bag on the day! Thank you to the Parents Association for organising this event.

We have observed several students crossing the road in unsafe areas, which is very concerning. To ensure the safety of all students, we ask that you please encourage your child to use the designated school crossing on Armstrong Road when crossing. These crossings are supervised and provide a much safer option for students. We appreciate your support in reinforcing safe road habits and helping keep our students safe before and after school.

Lunchtime clubs will continue in Term 2. These clubs are open to all students across the school, however, there may be limited spots in some clubs due to limited resources or space. Classroom teachers will remind students when clubs will be running. We will support students to access these clubs and further develop their social skills and friendships through meaningful and practical experiences.

Last Term, 10 of our Level 6 leaders, accompanied by Jason Mulder & Kate Latu, attended National Young Leaders Day on Friday, 27 March. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to be inspired by a range of speakers who shared their personal leadership journeys. Students heard from Catherine Laga’aia, Adrian Beck, Nick Hudson, and Jacqui Bell, each offering unique insights into resilience, leadership, and pursuing their passions. The feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing how much they enjoyed the experience.

What a fantastic MAD (Make A Difference) parade we had on the last day of Term 1. It was a sea of bright colours as students danced, sang, and partied in our end-of-term celebration. Thank you to all the students who dressed up and brought a gold coin donation to support the school. Finally, thank you to the Parent Association for organising the Easter Raffle and raising money for the school.
