Key Dates

The Next Fortnight of Learning

Welcome Back to Term 3!

 

Welcome back everyone! We hope our families have enjoyed a wonderful break and had the opportunity to relax, recharge and spend time together.

We would also like to let our Grade 6 families know about an upcoming graduation photo opportunity. On Monday 15th September at 12:00pm, students will have their Grade 6 Graduation photo taken.

There is no charge to families for this photo. We encourage all Grade 6 students to be present and ready to capture this important milestone as they celebrate their final year of primary school.

Following the Grade 6 Graduation photo, we will also be taking our whole school photo. We ask that all students are present and ready to participate in this special school memory.

We look forward to a wonderful term ahead and thank families for your continued support.

 

Literacy

 

The grade six students have made a fabulous start to term 3! They have approached their learning with enthusiasm and have worked hard during our Industrial Revolution Unit. Students have developed an understanding of the significant changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution and can explain how it transformed how people lived and worked.

Students have also made a wonderful start on their Grade 6 memory books. They have taken great care in creating thoughtful and creative pages that capture their primary school journey. We are excited to watch their memory books come together over the semester and can't wait to see the finished products! 

 

Mathematics

 

In Mathematics, students have successfully completed our decimals unit, where they developed confidence in multiplying and dividing decimals by powers of ten using their understanding of place value. We have now begun exploring the connections between fractions, decimals and percentages, building on these skills to deepen students' mathematical understanding. Over the next fortnight, our focus will be on calculating percentage discounts and applying this knowledge to real-world shopping and money scenarios. 

 

Well Being

 

We started the term looking at stress!  We brainstormed times at school, at home and in the community where we can feel stressed and it was very interesting to hear what the students came back with and how they deal with it.  Stress is natural and it can be beneficial when we deal with it in the best manner.

 

Hoop Time

 

We are incredibly proud of our Hoop Time Participants. By all reports it was an incredible day and the boys team were victorious. Well done Skye Primary!

 

Bronze Awards

 

Congratulations to this week’s Bronze award recipients, Ruby R and Arabella M.

 

Skye Footy League Grand Final and Brownlow

 

The unique Skye Footy League came to an exciting climax last Friday with Galaxy winning the Grand Final!  Congratulations to Mrs. Hammil and her team as they had to do it the hard way and win all of their finals to claim the ultimate prize.  Thursday saw the prestigious Brownlow count where Mr. J went through every game and votes were awarded to the best Rookies, Girls and Boys for each match.  Harper was a clear winner of the Girls award, followed by Vienna and Aariah.  Jack won the boys and he was closely followed by Parkes and Jaxon P.  It was great to see how happy the runners-up for the winners.  Mr.J's emphasis on sportsmanship was naturally evident.  

A big thank you must go to Mr. J for organising the competetion, umpiring every game, updating the ladder every week and doing everything!  I speak to a lot of my friends who are teachers at other schools and they are amazed and enthralled by Skye Footy League.  We are truly blessed to have Mr. J at our school as he does so much to make it a better place and the students better people.
