Connect: Year 5

Dear Families,

The students have settled back into their weekly routines after an exciting start to the term. We have also begun our STOMP dance lessons in preparation for the school concert. The students embraced the experience with enthusiasm and confidence, demonstrating a positive attitude and a willingness to participate as they learned the choreography.

Costumes for the concert

We are asking that Grade Five students dress as cowboys/cowgirls.

Denim jeans/shorts and a flannel shirt will be needed. Cowboy hats, vests and bandanans will be optional.

Thanks in advance

Literacy

British Colonisation

In the next 2 weeks students will continue our work on the British Colonisation. They will begin writing diary entries from the perspective of one of the people in the colony. Students will continue to analyse how the British colonisation of Australia brought major economic and social change, but these changes had very different impacts on First Nations Australians, convicts and settlers, and continue to shape Australia today.

Numeracy

Shapes

In this four-lesson topic, students are building on Year 4 work on features of two-dimensional shapes and symmetry. A key focus of this unit is transforming shapes by rotating, translating and reflecting them.

Science

In Science, we are delving into the fascinating world of plant biology. Students will investigate the abiotic features that support plant growth, discover what makes a plant invasive, and explore how plants have adapted over time to thrive in their environments.

Wellbeing

During the next 2 weeks students will -

Identify situations where they should seek help in working through problems.

Identify a list of trusted people to seek out when needing help.

Normalise and destigmatise help-seeking behaviour.

Contribute to groups and teams.
