Literacy
In Writing, the Foundation students have been learning to write on dotted thirds lines using their new writing books. They have been practising correct letter formation and ensuring their letters are the correct size and positioned appropriately on the lines.
We have also continued to enjoy our mentor text, Giraffes Can't Dance. Throughout our reading, the children have been identifying the story's setting, characters, problem, and solution, helping them develop a deeper understanding of narrative structure.

Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have continued exploring addition and subtraction. Students have been learning to:
- represent subtraction number stories using counters on a ten-frame
- count two collections and identify the difference between them within 10
- use concrete materials to solve simple addition and subtraction problems.
In Applied Mathematics, we have been exploring capacity and discussing which containers hold more or less the same. Students have been learning to:
- use the language of capacity, including holds more, holds less, and holds about the same, while sorting and comparing containers
- identify when containers are full, empty, or about half full, and compare the capacity of two containers to determine which holds more or less.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, students have been exploring Topic 2 through Activities 4 and 5, focusing on recognising their personal strengths, working collaboratively, and showing respect for others.
During these lessons, students have:
- discussed what it feels like to be afraid or nervous and identified how these emotions can be experienced in their bodies
- explored what it means to be brave and shared examples of everyday situations where they can demonstrate courage.

Reminders
Satchels and Home Reading
Please ensure your child brings their satchel to school each day. To borrow a new coloured decodable book, your child must first return their current book. Once all boxes on the home reading sheet have been completed, please see your classroom teacher to collect a new sheet.
There is a QR code inside your child’s Boomerang Book which allows you to access Little Learners Love Literacy books online for additional reading practice at home. Here is a link to assist with reading: Reading at Home

Library
Please send a named bag with your child on their library day so they can bring a book home to enjoy. Students have received a red material bag from their teacher which would make a great library bag!

Shoelaces
We have noticed there are many children who come to school with laces. If they can't tie their laces, it is recommended they have velcro shoes. Here is a video to assist with learning to tie laces.

Toileting Before School
Please remind your child to use the toilet before school so that their learning is not interrupted in the morning session.
Spare Clothes
Please ensure your child has a change of clothes, including socks, in their bag.

Dojo Rewards
Congratulations to all students who have achieved their Silver Award (150 points) and Gold Award (250 points). Certificates will be presented during assembly while students stand with their class. Students will choose their reward in consultation with their teacher.
Letter Recognition Game:
Let's play a Letter Challenge! Set a timer for one minute and see how many letters you can name. Record your score each time you play. Can you beat your score with each new attempt? Keep practising and watch your letter recognition skills grow! 🌟
Swimming Week:
Our students had a fantastic week at swimming, enjoying the opportunity to learn and practise new water safety and swimming skills. They also developed their independence by drying themselves and getting dressed after each lesson. A definite highlight of the week was the bus ride, where everyone loved chatting and spending time with their friends.
Prep Bags 2027 Competition
The Department of Education is inviting young Victorians to showcase their creativity for the chance to design the 2027 Prep bag. This year's theme is "My Year of Prep."
The winning artwork will be featured on the front of the 2027 Prep bags, which will be given to thousands of students starting Prep at Victorian government schools next year.

100 Days of School Celebration
Our students were certainly 100 Days Brighter on Thursday as they enjoyed celebrating this special milestone with their classmates. Throughout the day, they participated in a range of fun activities, including a whole-school parade, a 100 Dice Game, a 100 Number Hunt, crown making, and completing 100 exercises.
As a cohort, we also created a collaborative poster titled "100 Reasons We Love School," which is now proudly displayed in the Prep corridor. It was a wonderful day filled with smiles, laughter, and lots of memorable moments. We also captured some fantastic photos to remember the occasion!
