Responding to Our Student Wellbeing Data
At St Fidelis, we use our student wellbeing data to better understand the strengths and needs of our learners. This term, students participated in targeted wellbeing lessons that were designed to address trends identified through our student wellbeing surveys. These lessons provide students with practical strategies to build resilience, develop positive learning habits and strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing.
Year 1 – Understanding Our Emotions
Our wellbeing data highlighted the importance of supporting students to recognise and respond to their emotions. Year 1 students explored a range of feelings, learnt how emotions can affect our bodies and practised identifying what they might be feeling in different situations.
Students were introduced to the simple strategy Stop. Breathe. Ask for Help. By learning to pause, take a deep breath and seek support from a trusted adult, students are building lifelong skills to help them regulate their emotions and make positive choices.
Year 2 – Ready to Learn
Our student wellbeing data showed that developing positive learning habits is an important focus for our Year 2 students. Through their Ready to Learn lesson, students explored the habits that help them feel confident, organised and prepared for learning each day.
Together, they discussed the importance of following routines, listening carefully, having the right equipment, being organised and participating positively in classroom learning. These small everyday habits help students become independent learners and contribute to a positive classroom environment.
Year 3 – The Power of Yet
To support students in developing resilience and perseverance, Year 3 explored The Power of Yet. Our wellbeing data highlighted the importance of helping students build confidence when faced with challenges and understand that learning takes time.
Through engaging discussions and activities, students learnt that changing "I can't do it" to "I can't do it... yet" helps develop a growth mindset. They discovered that mistakes are an important part of learning and that persistence, effort and practice help us achieve our goals.
TRP in Action – Foundation FLW and Their Gratitude Glasses
Our Foundation students have continued to build their wellbeing skills through The Resilience Project. Foundation FLW explored the practice of gratitude by putting on their special "Gratitude Glasses" and looking for things in their classroom and school that they were thankful for.
This engaging activity encouraged students to notice the positives around them and appreciate the people, places and experiences that bring them joy. Developing gratitude from an early age helps foster optimism, connection and emotional wellbeing.
When schools and families work together, we help every child flourish socially, emotionally and academically. Please feel free to reach out if you have any wellbeing concerns.
