Happy Week 3!

A reminder: Students will require a sports uniform for additional running trials on Friday 31st July.

This week, our Year 4 students enjoyed participating in the Simmonds and Academy Discovery Day, where they had the opportunity to experience a range of engaging learning activities and explore what life is like at a Catholic secondary school. Students represented St Fidelis beautifully, demonstrating respect, curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day.

At Simmonds, the boys had a fantastic time participating in a range of engaging activities, including dance, cooking (making delicious pancakes!), sport, and science/STEM. They thoroughly enjoyed exploring the school, meeting many of the teachers, and spending time with the principal.

At The Academy, the girls had a wonderful time taking part in a variety of hands-on rotations. They made English muffin pizzas in cooking, explored exciting chemical reactions in science, and created colourful beaded bracelets during a wellbeing session. The girls also enjoyed a fun scavenger hunt as they explored the school grounds.

We are incredibly grateful for our strong partnerships with The Academy and Simmonds. Thank you for warmly welcoming our students and providing such engaging experiences that gave them a wonderful glimpse into life at secondary school.

Thank you to our wonderful Grandparents for making it to our Grandparents Day Mass and Celebrations. We had a wonderful time welcoming them into our classroom. 

As mathematicians, we have been exploring how to solve two-digit by one-digit multiplication problems using a range of efficient strategies. Students have been learning to use the box model, the distributive property, slicing arrays, and the area model to represent their thinking and develop a deeper understanding of multiplication. They have been explaining their mathematical reasoning and comparing different strategies to determine which method works best for different problems.

As inquirers, we have continued to explore habitats, environments and animal adaptations. Following our exciting visit to the Melbourne Zoo, students reflected on the different animals they observed and investigated how their unique features help them survive in their natural habitats. We have been discussing the relationship between living things and their environments and making connections between our classroom learning and our real-world experiences.

As readers, we have begun our class novel, The Wild Robot. Before reading, students made thoughtful predictions using the title, cover and illustrations, and discussed what they already knew about robots, nature and survival. Throughout our reading, we are making connections between the novel and our Inquiry learning by considering how habitats, environments and adaptation may influence the characters and events in the story.
