Foundation News

What a wonderful week we've had in Foundation! The highlight was our very first excursion to Melbourne Zoo, where the children had an amazing time exploring the different animal habitats. This excursion supported our Inquiry unit, "How do living things survive and thrive?", as students investigated the basic needs of living things and discovered the features that help animals survive in different environments. It was wonderful to see their curiosity, thoughtful questions and excitement as they made connections between our classroom learning and the real world. A huge thank you to our parent volunteers for giving up their time to support us—we couldn't have done it without you!
We also loved celebrating Grandparents Day together. It was so special to welcome our grandparents and special visitors into our classroom after Mass to share in activities with the children. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning such a memorable one.
In Mathematics, we have begun learning to add single-digit numbers, using hands-on materials, pictures, and number stories to help us understand that addition means putting groups together to find the total.
We are looking forward to celebrating our 100 Days of School! The children will then enjoy a fun-filled day of games, crafts, maths challenges and cupcake decorating. We can't wait to celebrate everything they have learned and accomplished during their first 100 days of school!
This week we will be learning about…
- Numeracy- Addition
- Reading- revision of letter sounds and digraphs (ck, ll, ss, ff, sh, qu, ee, z, zz), stretching out words, blending the sounds together and reading tricky words
- Writing- writing about our experiences, recording different sounds we can hear in the words we want to write and using full stops
- Inquiry- What do living things need to survive?
- Religion- What is Confirmation?
- The Resilience Project- what balance looks and feels like and unpack the choices we have when different emotions arise
Dates to remember…
- 28th July - 100 Days of School Celebration
Have a wonderful week!
