Year 5/6 News

Happy Week 3! What a busy Week 2 we've had!

In Literacy, we continued developing our understanding of our class novel, The Last Bear, by reading, answering detailed comprehension questions, and responding to linked texts. We explored the threats facing polar bears using the WWF website before completing a creative task that contrasted an ideal polar bear habitat with one impacted by human threats.

In Maths, we continued our learning about location and transformation. Students explored reflecting, translating and rotating shapes, before applying these skills to solve multi-step worded problems involving more than one transformation.

In Inquiry, we explored how animals have adapted to survive in their habitats. We discussed how structural (physical) features help animals meet the challenges of their environment, and why these same adaptations may not be suitable in a different habitat. For example, why a camel would struggle to survive in the Arctic. Students then investigated an animal of their choice, identifying the structural adaptations that help it survive and thrive in its natural habitat.

In Religion last week, we continued our focus on Confirmation. We explored Scripture passages about the Holy Spirit and deepened our understanding of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, discussing how we can demonstrate these gifts in our everyday lives. We also examined how living out these gifts helps us grow in the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.

A special congratulations to Felix, who proudly served as an altar server at Friday's Mass. He represented our school with reverence, confidence and respect throughout the celebration. We are incredibly proud of the way he embraced this important role and thank him for being such a wonderful representative of our school community!
