Year 2 News

A heartfelt thank you to all the grandparents and family members who shared in our Grandparents Day celebrations. It was a joy to welcome you into our school for Mass and to spend time together in our learning spaces.

In religion, we have been learning about the four parts of the Mass: Gather, Listen, Give Thanks, and Go. We explored what happens during each part and how they help us grow closer to God and live out Jesus' teachings in our everyday lives. Congratulations to Minnie and Alex T, who confidently took part in this week's Grandparents Day Mass.

As inquirers, we have begun an exciting new unit. Our big question this term is: How do aquatic animals survive in the places they live? Students have been learning about the features and basic needs of aquatic animals and how different environments support life underwater. We are looking forward to extending our learning with next week's excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium.

As mathematicians, we have been learning different strategies for solving multiplication problems by exploring equal groups, repeated addition, skip counting, and arrays. We have been building our understanding of rows and groups, comparing different strategies and explaining our thinking. 

This week, we will be learning about…

• Numeracy: Multiplication 
• Literacy: Non-Fiction Texts 
• Spelling: The digraph /ea/ making the sound "e" as in beach
• Inquiry: Aquatic Animals
• Religion: Confirmation and The Holy Spirit
• TRP: Emotional literacy 

Reminders for week 4: 

• Year 2 excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium on Monday, 3rd August. Please wear sports uniform and bring a small backpack which students will carry on the excursion.
• 2SH class assembly on Friday, 7th August.
