Grade 2 Community News

As we come to the end of another term at Tarneit Rise, we are proud to reflect on all the fantastic learning and achievements in grade 2…
Literacy
In literacy, Grade 2 has been developing their understanding of adverbs and how they add detail to sentences by describing how, when, or where actions happen. In spelling, we have been focusing on the rule of doubling the consonant before adding -ing. Grade 2 has worked hard to apply this rule in their writing. During our comprehension lessons, grade 2 has been learning the reading strategy of asking questions before, during, and after reading to help deepen our understanding of texts. We have also been learning to recognise and use question words such as who, where, what, when, how, and why to support our comprehension and inquiry skills. Grade 2 has explored the text ‘Turtle's Song’ and has used our knowledge and understanding to create informative pieces detailing the life cycle of a green turtle.
Maths and Numeracy
In numeracy, grade 2 has been building our problem-solving skills through total problems and change problems. We have been developing our confidence in using different strategies to find solutions. We have also explored capacity, in which we have been learning how to compare, measure, and estimate the amount that different containers can hold. Grade 2 have additionally been learning to identify properties of 3D objects and recognise different types of prisms.
Grade 2 Open Day
One of the highlights of term 2 has been Open Day, where grade 2 proudly showcased their learning in Humanities. Throughout the term, we have explored a range of topics, including Indigenous culture, Australian states and territories, compass directions, urban, rural, and remote locations, and communication through time. It was wonderful to see our students confidently sharing their knowledge and celebrating their learning with family members and visitors.
Another highlight of the term has been Pyjama Day, which brought lots of enjoyment to Tarneit Rise!
The Grade 2 team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our Grade 2 students for their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the term. We are incredibly proud of the progress they continue to make and the positive attitude they bring to their learning each day. We wish all our Grade 2 families a relaxing and enjoyable break and look forward to another exciting term ahead!
