Physical Education News

Dear Tarneit Rise Primary School Families and Friends

Welcome back to another action-packed PE newsletter! The students have been working very hard this term and as we come to crunch time they are really shining!

Student Shoutout

Massive shoutout to our grade 4s and 6s who have been on very successful Athletics days! Both days ran without any dramas, and all students participated to the best of their ability!

Well done to Chloe and Gurman who competed at the Regional Cross Country event on Monday. Well done to you both, we know that you left it all on the track.

Preps - Grade 2

Our junior year grades have been working very hard, learning the skill of bouncing. All three grades have been working on their single-handed bounce with a basketball. We have been focusing on protecting the ball with our bodies and have been using our spider hands to control the ball. By bending and straightening our elbows, we have been able to maintain a controlled bounce and move with the ball. We have started playing games that involve the students having to multitask by watching their ball as well as other players around them. This helps to increase their awareness of people around them and what they can do to avoid them.

Grade 3

Grade 3s have been focusing on honing their European handball skills. They have been focusing on creating a numerical advantage as well as learning new ways to get around a defender using dribbling techniques. They have also progressed into being able to speed their game up as a result of this for their final week of European handball.

Grade 4

Grade 4s have continued their soccer unit and have focused on their passing and their laces shooting. They have been using their instep pass for accuracy and their lace shooting for power.

Grade 5

Grade 5s have continued on with AFL by learning the drop punt, which is how goals are scored, and long passes are made. This skill is unique to AFL as it is the only sport that uses the drop punt.

Grade 6

Grade 6 students have continued their knowledge of tag rugby by focusing on their runs with the ball through games of castles. They have been identifying gaps in the field that they will be able to run through to increase their chances of scoring.

Team of the TERM

Team of the Term is for students who have shown exceptional values in PE and make sure that they are giving everything they do a red-hot go. Well done to the Term 2 team of the term!
