Term 2 has now come to an end. What amazing artwork the students have produced throughout term 2. We are proud of the progress students have made so far and look forward to starting Media Arts in term 3.
Star Pupil Awards
We are also incredibly proud to announce our "Star Pupils" for the term. These individual students were selected for showing significant Growth in their artistic skills and for being role models of our school values in every lesson (see below under each grade)
Grade Prep
Prep students explored texture in Visual Arts by creating their own Rainbow Fish artwork. They carefully added textured paper to represent the fish's scales, learning how different materials can add interest and detail to their creations. Students then reviewed the colours of the rainbow while creating beautiful butterflies, using bright colours in the correct rainbow order.

Grade 1
Towards the end of Term 2, students completed their Māori-inspired koru artworks, learning about the significance of the koru symbol and how it represents new life, growth, strength and peace in Māori culture. Students explored the flowing spiral patterns and carefully incorporated these designs into their own creative pieces. They then travelled virtually to South America, learning about Peru and creating colourful mixed media llamas inspired by this vibrant country. Students used a variety of materials, including fabrics, pom-poms, sequins and other decorative elements, to add texture and detail to their unique artworks.

Grade 2
Grade 2 students completed their vibrant flower artworks inspired by artist Amy Gibbs, exploring colour, pattern and detail to create striking floral designs. They then moved on to mixed media art, creating paper dolls with a cultural twist. Students explored how clothing, patterns and accessories can reflect different cultures and used a variety of materials to design unique dolls that celebrated diversity and creativity.

Grade 3
Over a two-week project, Grade 3 students explored the art of still life by carefully observing and drawing a plant and pot plant found either indoors or outdoors. Students focused on shape, details and proportion to accurately capture their chosen subject. To complete their artwork, they used vibrant watercolours to add depth and colour, bringing their beautiful still life compositions to life.

Grade 4
Grade 4 students explored the beauty of blossom trees, learning how artists can create texture using a variety of techniques and materials. Using cotton tips and other tools, students carefully applied paint to represent delicate blossoms and add depth to their artworks. They then moved on to learning about one-point perspective, developing their understanding of space and distance while creating artworks that showed objects receding towards a single vanishing point.

Grade 5
Grade 5 students explored the use of warm and cool colours while creating vibrant cityscape artworks inspired by artist Jessica Hogarth. They experimented with colour combinations to create a night and day piece of artwork. Students then moved on to graffiti-inspired artworks, using creative lettering techniques to design and personalise their names in a colourful and expressive style.

Grade 6
Over the past 3–4 weeks, Grade 6 students have been engaged in a hands-on papier-mâché project, carefully constructing and decorating their own unique vases. Throughout the process, students developed their skills in shaping, layering and refining three-dimensional forms. They then moved on to creating reflective landscape paintings, exploring the use of warm and cool colours to create mood, contrast and the illusion of reflections in water.
