Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families,
As we reach the end of Term 2, students have much to celebrate in their music learning. Throughout the semester, students have explored rhythm, pitch, dynamics, composition, instrumental performance, creativity, and collaboration. The final fortnight provides opportunities for students to reflect on their achievements, showcase their skills, and enjoy making music together.
During Week 9, Prep students will continue developing their sense of rhythm and beat by playing familiar songs using boomwhackers, untuned percussion instruments, and body percussion. They will practice keeping a steady beat and performing music together as a class. In Week 10, students will celebrate a wonderful term of music through singing, dancing, and playing a variety of instruments, including boomwhackers. This joyful lesson will allow students to revisit favourite songs and activities while demonstrating the skills they have developed throughout the term.
In Week 9, Grade 1 students will create their own rainshakers and explore how different materials can produce different sounds. They will investigate timbre and use their instruments to accompany music and rhythmic activities. During Week 10, students will reflect on their music learning from Semester 1 and discuss the skills and experiences they have enjoyed most. They will then celebrate their achievements through a range of fun music and instrumental games that encourage listening, teamwork, and creativity.
During Week 9, Grade 2 students will design and create their own tambourines. They will explore how tambourines are used in music and experiment with ways to produce different rhythmic patterns and sounds. In Week 10, students will reflect on their growth as musicians throughout the semester, identifying new skills they have learned and activities they have enjoyed. They will finish the term by participating in engaging music and instrumental games that reinforce rhythm, cooperation, and performance skills.
In Week 9, Grade 3 students will learn the C and Am chords on the keyboard and explore how these chords can be used to accompany and complete simple melodies. Students will experiment with chord changes and develop confidence in playing along with music. In Week 10, students will celebrate their semester of learning by performing songs and participating in group music-making activities using percussion instruments. They will demonstrate their growing understanding of rhythm, beat, and ensemble performance.
In Week 9, Grade 4 students will further develop their keyboard technique while learning and refining the C and Am chords. They will focus on accurate finger placement, smooth chord transitions, and maintaining a steady tempo while accompanying melodies. In Week 10, students will apply their developing performance skills through more complex ensemble activities, playing percussion parts that require greater independence, coordination and musical accuracy. They will celebrate their learning by showcasing the techniques and musical skills they have developed throughout the semester.
In Week 9, Grade 5 students will continue rehearsing their original compositions, refining musical ideas, and working collaboratively to prepare for performance. They will focus on structure, timing, and effective group communication. In Week 10, students will perform their compositions for their peers and celebrate the creative achievements they have made throughout the semester. They will reflect on the compositional process and the skills they have developed as musicians and collaborators.
In Week 9, Grade 6 students will engage in advanced rehearsal of their original compositions, focusing on performance technique, expressive dynamics, accurate timing, balance between parts, and effective ensemble communication. Students will make final refinements to ensure polished and cohesive performances. In Week 10, students will present their compositions, demonstrating sophisticated musical understanding and performance skills. They will evaluate their creative process, reflect on their growth as musicians and composers, and celebrate the successful completion of their Semester 1 music learning journey.
Thank you to all students for their enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment throughout Semester 1. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to another exciting semester of Performing Arts learning in Term 3!
