Responding to Behaviours of Concern

Box Hill High School is committed to providing a safe and respectful learning environment where bullying and other forms of anti-social behaviours will not be tolerated. 

When responding to bullying and anti-social behaviours of concern, our school will aim to: 

• be proportionate, consistent, and responsive

• find a constructive solution for everyone

• stop the bullying from happening again

• restore the relationships between the students involved. 

   

The relevant Sub School team is responsible for investigating allegations of bullying and anti-social behaviours in a timely and sensitive manner. 

To appropriately investigate an allegation of behaviour misconduct, the Sub School team will:  

• speak to the those involved in the allegations, including the target/s, the students allegedly engaging in bullying / anti-social behaviour/s and any witnesses to the incidents

• speak to the parent/carers of the students involved

• speak to the teachers of the students involved

• take detailed notes of all discussions for future reference

• obtain written statements from all or any of the above. 

   

Following an investigation, responses to bullying and anti-socials behaviours can include: 

• offer wellbeing support, including referral to the Student Wellbeing Team

• facilitate a restorative practice meeting with all or some of the students involved

• facilitate a Student Support Group meeting and/or Behaviour Support Plan for affected students

• prepare a Safety Plan restricting contact between target and students engaging in bullying behaviour

• monitor the behaviour of the students involved for an appropriate time and take follow up action if necessary  

• implement cohort, year group, or whole school targeted strategies to reinforce positive behaviours

• implement proportionate disciplinary consequences for the students engaging in bullying and/or anti-social behaviour, which may include removal of privileges, detention, class withdrawal, suspension and/or expulsion consistent with our Student Wellbeing and Engagement policy, the Ministerial Order on Suspensions and Expulsions and any other relevant Department policy. 

Parents/carers play a vital role in supporting the school to ensure a safe, respectful and engaged environment for all students. To support this, we ask that parents/carers: 

• trust that the school will follow the above processes to address and respond to all bullying and anti-social behaviours of concern

• understand the school’s rules and support them at home

• model respectful behaviour in how you speak to and about others in person and online

• ensuring your child stays safe online by talking with them and addressing concerns early.
