Pop-up Op Shop 

On Friday 6th November the Sustainability Club will be running a Pop-Up Op Shop at school. The shop will be located in room 116 and will be open to students to come in and shop from the start of lunch (1:05pm) until 4pm. 

The goal of this event is to promote the concept of slow fashion - a mindful approach to clothing design, production, and consumption that prioritizes quality, ethical labor, and environmental sustainability over rapid trends and mass disposal. 

Did you know that fast fashion generates more CO2 than the aviation and transport industries combined? Or that we discard 92 million tons of clothing-relating waste each year? That's enough to fill the entire MCG more than 350 times! By making small changes such as shopping second-hand or repairing/upcycling old garments, you can have a huge positive impact on the environment.  

In order for this to be a successful event, we are relying on you – students, staff and families – to donate your pre-loved items to be sold at the Op-Shop. 

We will be accepting any clothes, accessories or books (NOT textbooks) that have been cleaned and are in good, wearable/useable condition. Please bring any and all donations to the Middle School Office any time from now until 23rd October. 

For all donations you bring in, you will receive tokens which you can put towards buying new items on the day of the Op-Shop. All funds raised on the day will be donated to Thread Together, a local organisation that partners with leading fashion brands to rescue unsold clothing and distribute it to people in need. 

All leftover items will be donated to a local op shop such as Vinnies or the Salvation Army.  

We are looking forward to receiving your donations and seeing you at the op-shop, as events like these cannot happen without you all!
