Safe On Socials

Supporting Safe and Healthy Technology Use at Home
As part of our social media and technology discussion at school, we regularly talk about staying safe online, making responsible choices and the importance of developing healthy technology habits. While age restrictions and safety settings can help keep children safer online, they are not foolproof. During our sessions, students often share their online experiences and seek advice. By staying involved and keeping conversations open at home, families play a vital role.
Please support your child by:
- Keeping devices in shared family spaces where use can be easily supervised.
- Avoid devices and social media in bedroom, particularly at night, to encourage healthy sleep habits.
- Check who your child is communicating or gaming with and ensuring they are interacting with people they know in real life (IRL).
- Monitor the content of conversations, games, and apps your child is accessing.
- Set clear expectations around screen time and regularly reviewing usage.
- Have open, ongoing conversations about online safety, respectful behaviour and seeking help when something doesn’t feel right.
Safety features and parental controls are valuable tools, but they cannot replace active parent and guardian involvement. Children need trusted adults to guide them, ask questions and help them make safe choices online.
Together, we can support our students to develop positive digital habits and enjoy technology in a safe, balanced and healthy way.
