Grade 5 News

The first week of Term 4 has been an exciting and memorable one for our Grade 5 students.
We spent the first two days learning about Feathertop Chalet and preparing for camp before heading off for three incredible days of adventure, teamwork and fun. We were fortunate to enjoy perfect weather, with nothing but sunshine for the entire camp.
We are extremely proud of the way every student challenged themselves, stepped outside their comfort zone and represented our school so positively. Their behaviour, resilience and willingness to have a go at all activities were outstanding. While many students agreed that the Giant Swing was the highlight of camp, there were plenty of favourites across the week. A special mention must also go to the students for their valiant effort in the annual Teacher vs Student Camp Game. Despite their determination, the teachers remain the reigning champions for another year!
Some of our Grade 5 students also left camp early to compete at the Division Athletics Championships. They represented the school with enthusiasm and determination, achieving excellent results in their individual events. Congratulations to those students who have qualified for the Regional Championships. We wish them all the very best for the next stage of competition.
Back at school, we have begun exploring our class novel, The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. Students will use themes from the novel to develop their persuasive writing skills by composing letters to conservation groups, advocating for greater support and protection of shrinking polar bear populations.
In Mathematics, our focus is on percentages, including learning how to convert between percentages, decimals and fractions.
This week, some students will also be representing the school at the Division Basketball Tournament. We wish them the very best of luck as they compete against other schools and are confident, they will represent our school with the same sportsmanship, determination and team spirit they have shown throughout the year. We look forward to hearing about their achievements.
