Bridging Art and Language: Year 9 German Students Bring Year 8s’ Artworks to Life
As part of a cross-curricular activity with the Art department, our Year 9 German students used artworks created by Year 8 students as the inspiration for their Term 2 CAT.
They wrote detailed German texts describing their imaginary homes—covering living situations, room layouts, furniture, and household chores—before delivering an oral presentation to their peers.
Many students chose to present spontaneously, stepping away from their notes to speak freely and naturally.
Over the course of Semester 1, our Year 9 students have made noticeable progress. They are growing more confident with both written expression and spoken German. While we don't expect perfection, they are firmly on the road to fluency.
What has also been pleasing is the supportive atmosphere within the classroom. Students have been providing honest, constructive feedback to one another, fostering a culture of encouragement and shared growth rather than judgment.
