ALIA National Simultaneous Storytime – Wednesday 27th May
Our college library participated in the Australian Library and Information Association National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) again this year to promote literacy and reading in our school community. This is ALIA’s 26th year running NSS. From 12.00 pm to 1.00 pm, the book Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller, written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, and illustrated by Jake A. Minton, was read simultaneously in libraries across Australia and beyond. We held our reading slightly later at lunchtime in the library. Our school received a certificate recognising our participation in ALIA NSS. Our monitors had a ball setting up our NSS display. The all-girl turnout for the reading of Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller was perfect, as the book encouraged young people, particularly girls, to join sporting teams and follow their dreams. We also discussed our life goals and used our ideas to design personalised soccer jerseys. Congratulations to Christina D (7G) and Shumaila I (9D) on winning our book prize, Heroes of the World Cup, written by Simon Mugford, and illustrated by Dan Green.
