Term 2 has been another exciting and productive period for the Visual and Performing Arts faculty at Cranbourne Secondary College. Throughout the term, students have continued to demonstrate their creativity, dedication, and talent across a wide range of learning experiences, performances, exhibitions, and industry-inspired opportunities.
We have been thrilled to see students further develop their skills through classroom learning, co-curricular activities, and authentic creative experiences. The continued growth of the Music Institute Cranbourne program across Years 8 and 9 has provided students with valuable opportunities to refine their musicianship, while students enrolled in our VET pathways have continued to build practical skills and explore future careers in the creative industries.
It has also been another busy and successful term for Performing Arts. The term began with a performance of 'Pennies Before the Holidays' by our Year 12 Theatre Studies students, showcasing the creativity, commitment, and performance skills they have developed throughout the year. Rehearsals have also intensified for this year’s College production, 'Freaky Friday', with students enthusiastically preparing for performances from 13–15 August.
Our music students have continued to represent the College both on and off campus. Students from the Strings Program attended Stringfest, collaborating with young musicians from schools across Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs in a celebration of ensemble performance and musical excellence.
Students from the Music Institute Cranbourne have also performed at a range of year-level assemblies throughout the term. Highlights included original compositions by Year 9 students Ethan D, Fletcher N, Hunter K, Kavin K, and James K, as well as a wonderful whole-class performance of 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol from our talented Year 8 Music Institute students.
Across all disciplines, students have embraced opportunities to challenge themselves, collaborate with others, and share their learning with the wider community. Their enthusiasm and commitment were also evident through their contributions to the Emerging Creators Festival, helping to foster a vibrant and creative culture within the faculty.
Looking ahead to Term 3, there is plenty to be excited about. Our first and second-year VET Music and Sound Production students will attend the PUSH Careers Expo at the Corner Hotel in Richmond, where they will connect with young musicians from across Victoria and participate in workshops led by industry professionals. Alongside the upcoming performances of 'Freaky Friday', a range of additional performances and showcase opportunities are already in development.
As we move into the second half of the year, we look forward to celebrating even more student achievements and continuing to provide engaging opportunities for students to explore their passions within the Visual and Performing Arts at Cranbourne Secondary College.
