School Wide Positive Behaviour System
Success deserves to be celebrated, and last term our SWPBS program did exactly that!
We were thrilled to host our SWPBS Cinema & Pizza Celebration, where our top 10 students from each year level were invited to celebrate their outstanding commitment to our school values and expected behaviours throughout the semester.
And, as if the event could not get any better, it happened to fall on the same day as the World Cup! What an epic way to celebrate! Students enjoyed plenty of pizza before settling in to enjoy the afternoon together.
A huge congratulations to every student who earned their place at the celebration. Your consistent demonstration of our school values and expected behaviours makes a difference, not only to your own learning and success, but to the culture of our whole school community. A very big thank you also goes to Domino’s Gisborne for helping us make the celebration extra special!
🏆 9,902 reasons to celebrate!
The celebrations do not stop there. During Term 2, our students received an incredible 9,902 merits!
That is 9,902 moments where students were recognised for making positive choices, demonstrating our values and contributing to a positive learning environment. Unreal!
Term 3 is already shaping up to be another fantastic term, with 5,694 merits awarded in just the first five weeks. We cannot wait to see that number continue to grow!
Learning our behaviours with a Bluey twist!
This term, we are taking our explicit teaching of expected behaviours to the next level, with a little help from some very familiar Australian faces!
Every one of our expected behaviours has been linked to an episode of Bluey.
From learning about looking after our environment through the chaos of Hammerbarn and the unfortunate garden gnome, to exploring punctuality through the morning school rush, students are seeing that our expected behaviours are not simply a list of rules to follow.
We want our students to understand the why behind the behaviour.
We want them to recognise how being respectful, responsible, inclusive, ready to learn and an upstander can positively impact their own future, their relationships and the wider Gisborne Secondary College community.
Most importantly, we want our students to believe in these behaviours, not simply comply with them.
Because at GSC, success is about more than achieving a great result. It is about the choices we make along the way, the way we treat others and the positive contribution we make to our community.
So, keep demonstrating those expected behaviours, keep earning those merits and keep celebrating the success of those around you!
