Heartfelt Condolences

On behalf of the entire Gisborne Secondary College community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Lucas/Beattie and O'Riley families following the recent and sudden loss of Walt and Paul.

Both Walt and Paul were valued members of our community and will be deeply missed. Their loss is felt not only by their families and loved ones, but by the many people within our broader College community whose lives they touched.

At this incredibly difficult time, we offer our deepest sympathy, support and care to both families.

Our thoughts are with you, and we hold you close in our hearts during this difficult time.

Support is available

We recognise that grief and loss can affect everyone differently, and members of our College and wider community may need additional support during this difficult time. Please remember that you do not have to navigate this alone.

Support is available through a range of services, including:

  • Kids Helpline – support for young people aged 5–25, as well as parents and carers.
  • Lifeline – crisis support for anyone experiencing emotional distress or feeling overwhelmed.
  • Beyond Blue – support and information for people experiencing emotional distress, anxiety or depression.
  • Headspace – mental health and wellbeing support for young people aged 12–25.

Our College Wellbeing Team is also available to support our students and families. If you are concerned about a young person or would like assistance connecting with appropriate support, please reach out to the College.

Please take care of yourselves and each other, and remember that reaching out for support is a sign of strength.

From all of us at Gisborne Secondary College, we extend our sincerest condolences and continued support to the families and our broader community.
