LITTLE LEARNERS PARENT INFORMATION SESSION:
Recently, we had the opportunity to share an overview of our Little Learners Love Literacy approach with families, highlighting how we support our youngest students to become confident and capable readers.
The presentation focused on the Science of Learning and how this underpins our instructional practices at Skye Primary School. Families were introduced to Little Learners Love Literacy, an evidence-based program implemented from Foundation to Grade Two, which emphasises explicit and direct teaching of reading, writing and spelling skills. This structured approach ensures that students build their knowledge in a clear sequence, developing strong foundations in phonics by learning the relationship between sounds (phonemes) and letters (graphemes).
We explored how the program is carefully sequenced across eight stages, ensuring that students are only asked to read texts that match the skills they have been explicitly taught. A key feature of this approach is the use of decodable readers, which allow students to apply their knowledge with confidence and experience success early in their reading journey.
Families were also provided with insight into our take-home reading program. Students bring home familiar texts each week to practise and build reading fluency, with a strong focus on reading aloud. In addition to hard copy books, students have access to an online platform where they can read assigned texts and complete engaging follow-up activities. Weekly library visits and opportunities to borrow books for enjoyment were also highlighted as an important part of fostering a lifelong love of reading.
It was wonderful to see families engaging with the resources, exploring both the hard copy texts and online platform, and gaining a deeper understanding of how reading is taught at our school. We thank all families who attended and look forward to continuing to work in partnership to support every child’s reading journey.

NAPLAN TESTING:
We would like to congratulate our Year 3 and Year 5 students on the successful completion of their NAPLAN assessments. Throughout the testing period, students demonstrated outstanding resilience, focus and determination, approaching each session with a positive mindset and a willingness to do their best.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students supported one another, persevered through challenges, and represented our school so well. Completing NAPLAN is a significant milestone, and our students should feel proud of their efforts and achievements. Well done to all involved!
Have a great weekend!
