Reflect, Repair, Reset

At Skye Primary School, we believe that mistakes are a natural and important part of learning, not just in reading and mathematics, but in behaviour as well.

When students make a mistake with their behaviour, our focus is not simply on consequences, but on supporting them to learn, reflect and make better choices next time. A key part of this approach is the use of restorative conversations.

After a student has had time to reset, staff will often guide them through a short, supportive conversation to help them understand what happened and how to move forward. These conversations are calm, respectful and focused on learning.

Students might be asked questions such as:

  • What happened?
  • What were you feeling at the time?
  • Who was affected by your actions?
  • What can you do to make things right?
  • What will you do differently next time?

This process helps students to:

  • Take responsibility for their actions
  • Develop empathy and understand the impact of their behaviour on others
  • Learn practical strategies to make better choices in the future

We encourage families to have similar conversations at home when challenges arise. Supporting children to reflect, repair and move forward builds important life skills that extend well beyond the classroom.

If you have any questions about how we support student behaviour at school, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.
