Any students wishing to participate in this years 3/4 Hoop-time competition can register by completing the permission form sent out last week via the QKR app. This year our Hoop-time competition will be held on Thursday the 21st of May at Jubilee Park Stadium. We are hoping to take as many teams as possible and encourage anyone to get involved no matter how much basketball experience you have previously.

Next Fortnight of Learning

Literacy

As we wrap up our mentor text Off We Go Around Australia, students will dive into the chapter In the Bush, where a family sets off on a memorable adventure at Wombat Flat, enjoying classic bush experiences like camping by the Cascades, watching the sunrise, braving snowy conditions at Mt Misery, and riding across the Razorback. Inspired by these adventures, students will begin writing their own explanatory body paragraphs, using their knowledge of how waterfalls are formed. They will revisit the Single Paragraph Outline (SPO) to help structure their writing, including a clear topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding sentence. To make their writing more engaging, students will explore different sentence types—statements, questions, commands, and exclamations—while building their vocabulary with words such as borrowed, bungled, rare, collect, expedition, and demonstration.

Maths

In Maths, students will be building their confidence with addition and subtraction of two- and three-digit numbers using number lines and the strategy of place value partitioning. We will also be learning about time- more specifically, the duration of time and working out how long events last in real-life situations.

Wellbeing

In our wellbeing lessons, students are beginning to create their own Ready to Learn Plans—individualised and supportive tools developed alongside their teachers. These compassionate plans help students recognise when they are feeling overwhelmed, dysregulated, or escalated, and provide a set of pre-prepared strategies they have chosen themselves with guidance from teachers and ES. Through this process, students are building valuable self-awareness and developing a deeper understanding of their own emotions and responses.

Celebration of Learning

Harmony Day

To celebrate Harmony Day, we read the beautiful book I'm Australian Too and talked about how Australia is made up of many different cultures, stories and identities. Students then created a person that represents who they are, proudly sharing their backgrounds, interests and what makes them uniquely Australian. Check out the BTN link below for more details about why Harmony Day is a day we celebrate.
