Principal's Report

Tim Bernau | Principal

Dear Skye Families,

NAPLAN 2026 - Complete!

This week marks the conclusion of our NAPLAN assessments, and I want to extend a sincere well done to all of our Year 3 and Year 5 students. Sitting formal tests can feel quite unfamiliar, but our students approached every session with a positive attitude and genuine focus that we were really proud to see. It's also worth noting that students navigated some frustrating technical glitches along the way, demonstrating Resilience, one of our core Skye values, by composing themselves and pushing through with a great attitude.

A big thank you to our teachers for their preparation, and a special acknowledgement to our NAPLAN Coordinator, Mr Snow, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes managing the complex administration that makes these assessments run smoothly. We expect results to be available in early Term 3.

School Council Annual General Meeting

This week we held our School Council Annual General Meeting, at which office bearers for 2026 were elected. Congratulations to the following members on their appointments:

  • President: Chantelle Richards
  • Vice-President: Sally Dawson
  • Treasurer: Samantha Gentle

We look forward to working alongside our office bearers and the full School Council as we continue to drive the improvement and growth of our school community.

Bayside Peninsula Area Principal Conference

Next Thursday and Friday, the Skye PS Principal Team will be attending the Bayside Peninsula Area Principal Conference. We're particularly looking forward to hearing from internationally renowned educator Dylan Wiliam, who will be presenting across both days on Embedding Formative Assessment.

Formative assessment, the practice of gathering and responding to evidence of student learning in real time, has been a key improvement focus at Skye over the last 18 months. These sessions will give us a valuable opportunity to reflect on the progress we've made, celebrate our strengths, and identify areas where we can continue to grow. We look forward to bringing those insights back to our team.

Have a great fortnight!

Warm regards,

Tim
