What's happening in our classroom?
Literacy
As part of our literacy learning students will be learning about early Australian explorers and the reasons that motivated them to explore. Through this unit, students will build their understanding of topic-specific vocabulary and practising fluent reading strategies. They will also be developing their comprehension skills by answering both literal and inferential questions, helping them think deeply about what they read and understand ideas beyond the text.
Numeracy
In Mathematics, students will be building their understanding of fractions by exploring mixed fractions and improper fractions. They will learn how to convert between the two forms and develop their skills in ordering mixed fractions on a number line. This work will support students in strengthening their number sense and confidence when working with fractions.
Inquiry
In the coming weeks students will begin exploring our new Inquiry unit, Water Cycle, learning why water is an important Earth resource. This unit will cover the following learning areas:
- investigating how water moves through the environment (sky, land, and oceans).
- learning key processes including evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and run-off.
- making connections between the water cycle and changes in states of matter (solid, liquid, gas).
- comparing saltwater and freshwater distribution on Earth.
- recognising the importance of water to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, including the responsibility to care for water on Country.
Well-being
Over the next two weeks we will be working on:
- understanding stress triggers at home, school or in the yard
- identifying positive calming strategies that help when we are feeling stressed
- developing our personalised Ready to Learn plans

Celebration of Learning
Golf Clinic
Students recently participated in an exciting golf clinic where they worked alongside a coach to develop their skills in chipping, stance, and swing. It was fantastic to see everyone giving it a go, showing persistence, and supporting one another throughout the session. All students had a great time and should be proud of their effort.
Harmony Day
Students enjoyed celebrating Harmony Day by wearing a touch of orange to school. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the many different cultures and backgrounds within our community. The day highlighted the importance of inclusivity, respect, and belonging, with students embracing the message that everyone belongs.
Brainstorm Productions Performance
Last week our year 4 students were very lucky to participate in the Brainstorm Productions live performance. This program provides practical strategies for bullying prevention, online safety, social skills and emotion regulation.
